Whats the best way to do this?

I have one strap wrapped around the front axle from one side of the axle to the other and the same on the back..

then i ran one over the frame rails front and back to compress the suspension some the front is sitting on the bump stops, should this be sufficient? they are 3,300 lb straps with a 10,000 lb limit

 

I would have 1 if not 2 straps for each axle going out to the corners of the trailer. Then have one in the middle to somwhere. Maybe over the frame like you said.

 

you can do the frame or on axles...

if you run to the frame you can compress the suspension so that truck isnt bouncing like mad on the trailer over bumps..

you want 4 points at each corners

 

going from the axels you need four straps. left front of truck to pulling forward, right front pulling forward, right rear pulling back, and left back pulling back. You can run them straight or cross them like an X if you want, but thats all you need the one in the center on the frame will only keep the truck from going up, not rolling front or back. Your straps are plenty heavy enough for this just make sure to check them for tightness every time you stop for fuel. or every 2-300mi.

 

the problem with the back going back.. is the truck overhangs the back of the trailer lol, so the rear axle is tied forward too

run from the best spot you can find then for the 2 rear straps you still need them. go to the axle then..

sounds like you need a bigger trailer its prob gonna haul like crap if its over loaded

 

Then reverse it pull the back forward and the front back.

Something needs to get done with the rear axle, I've established that. But heres a few pics of what i have to work with.

I'll go back out and run the straps from the front axle to the hooks on the inside of the trailer on the back, and vise versa, they just don't look that beefy.

I can't help but thats the same trailer we used when we bought my truck to drive it back down here (didn't have license yet). We had to air down the front tires almost all the way and we were able to get the tire straps to work (33's), mine just fit too lol. I don't remember how we did the back tho.

ok i have 2 straps from the rear axle going forward, one on the middle of the front one coming back and the ones putting tension on the suspension in the same place.

 

When I towed my Ranger on that same size U-Haul trailer I just secured the front tires to the trailer and made it home the 100 miles without any trouble. It was strapped down tight and it didn't budge. Not the brightest idea but it worked.

 

Just drive it up there, put it in park and depress that 3rd pedal aka the parking break...that should hold.

it doesnt work.. I have thew new cable just have't put it on yet, maybe I'll do that tomorrow if its not cold, nevermind all my tools are packed up.

I dont think those straps would fit my tires. Besides its sitting on top of them right now and I REALLY dont want to mess with backing it up far enough to see, that would require taking 5 straps off lol

 

They won't fit, my old 33" Xterrains were aired down as far as they could go pretty much and it BARELY was able to work, even with three guys pulling the strap too. No way in hell are you going to get it to work that way, don't waste your time lol. Only thing you could do is throw the stock wheels back on the front if you have them. But it looks like your strapped down pretty good.

 

I have 3, (should be 4) tiny tires, but all the JY's want WAY too much for junk steel wheels.

 

I've actually been thinking about that. I'm thinking maybe 2"-3" nothing too crazy. We'll talk about it once you get back.

 

looks alright, im sure it will hold. i just like to use chains on the axle. the frame though straps work well

 

Its held up to 300 miles so far, and about 20 miles around town.

I was out there working on it at 1:30 am when it was 21º outside lol

I have 2 from each corner of the front axle criss crossed facing back and 2 on the rear axle criss crossed facing forwards, then one on the front cross member down to the trailer to sinch the front suspension down on to the bump stops. That has really helped keep the trailer tracking straight because the truck isn't boucing around anymore. I'm still thinking about getting one more on the rear of the truck, but we'll see what tomorrow's driving has to say about that. Were in Goodland, KS? My goal is Dallas tomorrow, then home around noon Thursday.
