Highway MPG

Well on Tuesday morning I left my house in FL to head up to GA where I am now living. It was 805 miles from my house in FL to where I am in GA. I used 37.249 galons of gas costing $100 @ a trip average of 21.6 mpg Highway. I was impressed with my milage and am happy with it(I thought it was worse).

I have already found one trail up here and will get some pics. up next time I go out there. It was fun and the lower part of my truck was covered in clay, but the stupid rain washed it off before I could get pics.

Nothing special, but I thought I would share...

Mike

Divide the miles you drove since your last fill up by the gallons of fuel you put in when the tank is empty.

O yeah, I forgot to mention that it is a 19.5 gallon tank and when I just about emptied the tank I got 362 miles on that tank.

Thanks for spoiling my happiness. I just got 19mpg on my trip to Lake Tahoe. But now that doesn't sound so good. Although you are a 4x2, so that makes it better.

You don't have to rub it in! Yesterday I tried going up to my parents new house and the HOA had just put new gravel on the road and I could barely get up, I finally got up on about the 4th try. There road is reaally steep too.
I had to put it in 1st gear and get a good running start and I still struggled and spun most of the way up.

My next truck WILL BE 4X4!
Here are a few pics. the one looking down is from the front porch showing how steep it was and the other is my truck in the drive way.

I'll cross post this from ORR, the original thread can be found at ORR 4.0L Gas Mileage Thread :

On Friday, May 26, 2006 at 5pm I started a 5 day weekend. We're currently closed for an exhibit change at work, plus I gt PTO for Monday and then my regularly scheduled days off were moved to Tues & Wed. So, being the snake hunter I am and NM & AZ being dry as a bone, I took off towards Del Rio, TX. I left early Saturday afternoon, topping off here in Las Cruces. I made a total of 11 fill-ups during the trip. My tripometer was used to calculate MPG. PPG (price per gallon) was not recorded, but I do have receipts. Driving pattern included at time frequent abrupt stops and starts/U-turns to acquire snakes on the road, or debris that fooled me to think it was a snake, driving at 75-85 MPH, or road cruising speeds of 20-45 MPH. Here's my totals:

1) 164.3 miles / 8.394 gallons / Fill-up @ Exxon in Van Horn / MPG: 19.573505
2) 424.0 miles / 12.503 gallons / Fill-up @ Exxon in Alpine / MPG: 20.771015
3) 545.8 miles / 5.758 gallon / Fill-up @ Phillips 66 in Alpine / MPG: 21.153178
4) 670.5 miles / 5.813 gallons / Fill-up @ Exxon in Alpine / MPG: 21.451918
5) 855.1 miles / 9.950 gallons / Fill-up @ Phillips 66 in Sanderson / MPG: 18.552764
6) 982.4 miles / 7.796 gallons / Fill-up @ Exxon in Del Rio / MPG: 16.328887**
7) 1095.2 miles / 6.086 gallons / Fill-up @ Exxon in Del Rio / MPG: 18.534341
8) 1279.3 miles / 9.603 gallons / Fill-up @ Exxon in Del Rio / MPG: 19.171092
9) 1450.4 miles / 8.984 gallons / Fill-up @ Phillips 66 in Sanderson / MPG: 19.044964
10) 1706.2 miles / 12.853 gallons / Fill-up @ Exxon in Carlsbad / MPG: 19.901968
11) 1928.4 miles / 10.628 gallons / Fill-up Phillips 66 in Las Cruces / MPG: 20.907038

Average MPG (there will be 2 averages 1) taking all MPG averaged together, and 2) final miles divided by total gallons of gas used for trip):

1) MPG combined (215.39067) divided by # of fill-ups (11) = 19.58097 MPG
2) Final miles (1928.4) divided by total gallons (98.368) = 19.60393 MPG

** I got crappy mileage at fill-up #6 due to driving directly into a headwind, plus running AC or dash & floor combined vent (which puts out cold air, like AC cold air!?!?!?!?!?) from Alpine, TX into Del Rio, TX. The wind was up to 30 mph in places, but forecasted as 10-20 mph.

current truck mileage read is 31,898.

I think I can get a good 320 gallons to my tank.

I bet if I got a programmer and maybe an intake it would help alot.

**** dude now I'm envious, I wish I could live up there. Be glad you got to macon and kept driving, we own an old house here in the county, and the mayor just decided to increase property taxes, they raised it 79%. We've been living here for 27-28 years, made no improvements, and have a cheap house and the raised the **** almost 80%. This is home so I ain't leaving soon, I might come visit ya one day though, we like camping up in the mountians. Infact you're not far, as the crow flies, from one of my favorite camping spots. It's over near Lake Burton IIRC, haven't been there in 3 years so I can't say exactly where though.
