I think the ranger peaked at the 2003 Fx4 Level II. it started going down hill after that.

I've heard alot of bad things about the SOHC, so I will probably never own a ranger with it. 98-00 are what I see the most around me. And the OHVs are sooo much better than the SOHCs. I've got a 99 ohv and its at 167,000 miles and it runs strong. Lots of torque, no complaints what so ever.

i say 95-00. i like the 95-97 because the inside looks newer than the 93-94 and i like the ttb suspension on the 4wd trucks. then i like 98-00 because there so much you can do to change front ends or keep the same one. pretty much you can have what ever look you want on your truck and still have the 4.0 OHV

would be nice to have one of each body style though. i like them all.

great idea for a thread btw

i agree. i think it would be cool to go through an SOHC and build it right though. it felt so much weaker than my trucks ohv but i knew it had more power on top end. bottom end sucked though.

Ive had a 93 3.0 extended cab and my current 95 4.0 reg cab and drove my friends 2000 something 3.0 reg cab a lot....I like the 95 the best. Prolly cause it is 4.0 and 5sp. Its really roomy for a small truck and has had less mechanical problems than either of the 3.0 automatics. I also like how the 95 looks with reg cab and short bed.

That is the god honest truth I had a 94 4wd with an OHV I beat the living snot out of it and then some You cannot undearstand what I did to the truck and it took every single little bit that I could throw at it loved it.

Either way, you mostly don't have to deal with those trashy TBW's (Electronic throttle by wire)

I like my 92, It's pretty basic for the most part, 4 Liter, twin sticks, and a d35..as far as "best" goes, you can really debate it forever, everyone has different preferences. I would probably go for a 95-97 somewhere around there if I do end up getting another one in the near future. Overall these are tough trucks and you really can't lose with whatever year you decide to go with really.

'03 all around. I'm not sure what everyone is talking about how weak the sohc is, I'm going on 80+k with only a thermostat change and routine maintenance...

'93-'97 series, after '97 ttb was gone, junk pvh hubs appeared, id rather have my o.h.v. 4.0 over the newer ohc 4.0 any day. i did notice the other day at a stealership that disc brakes are available on the rear axle factory, dont know when this started. i love my '93 and will drive it until its no longer rebuildable.

my favorite would be this one i saw the other day. it was the perfect starter truck. it was a 1997 xtra cab short bed. 4x4 with manual hubs stock. 4.0 5 sped manual t-case. 47xxx miles. power every thing. it was sick. 31/10.5 bfg muds and micky thompson classic II.

considering it's dumb as all hell to flat out say something sucks I'll put in my opinion on which looks best and I'll just say if it were possible to find an 02-03 twin stick I'd have it
