Big o tire B/S

Ok so i needed an oil change, which I've done myself at least 6 times...so i go to jiffy lube...theirs like 5 in line...so i go to big O tire the guys say oh we will get yeah right in....so I give up my keys and wait....and wait ...and wait

I go to Burger king right next door.. come back and still not done nows its been over an hour?? so i ask what the problem is and the guy says well it seems you have a stripped out oil plug...Thing is i know for sure that plug was
in perfect shape...they tried to charge me $65..to re thread etc.....
I got a little pissed off cause i thought wouldn't you know right away if there was problem.....so after arguing back and forth....I refused to pay they finally gave me my keys...$48.00 oil change... so i get home decide to take a look at my new oil plug ...Looks like the same plug to me????anybody ever go through some thing like this??

ive never been threw it but if they rethreaded it they don't put a new plug in it they just run a dye or tap(forgot which one it is) over your threads on your oil pan.

they tap the oil pan and they take a die to the oil plug.

Where are you going for your oil? I hit up Wal Mart for my oil and filter.

I never go to any fast oil change places. My friend used to work at a Jiffy Lube and he told me all the things they do. Another friend got a Civic filter installed on his Integra at a Jiffy Lube because they ran out of Integra filters so they used the Civic one because it looked the same. They told him that after the car puked all its oil in the street. Its not hard, especially on a lifted truck so I always do it myself.

I can change my oil by myself in 10 minutes and for a cost of about $20.

When you change you oil in -10 temps you learn to do it damn fast.

hmm... A drain plug will strip out before the pan does. Not like the old days, so this makes the story odd.

Im not looking forward to not being able to change my own oil. The fine print for my waranty says that if i make a claim, they are going to need all maintenance records (ie receipts). So i dont know how to get around this if i change my own oil and other light maintenance.

You simply have to save the receipts for the parts. When I change my oil I write the date , and mileage, on the receipt. Same goes for any other maintenance.

I've worked at 2 dealers around here, it rarely gets that bad to that point.
We were almost going to cover a lady's engine that seized due to not having an oil change since new. What gave it away is that Ford installs plain white filters and she still had it at 22k miles. If she had done at least one oil change most likely she would have been covered.
Heck I was given permission by Ford hot line to do head gaskets on a diesel under warranty, and it had ARP studs that were obviously torqued wrong.
As long as it looks clean and visually stock you are ok, good customer pay work is rare at dealerships so good warranty work may not get dropped easily.

if you tighten the plug too tight when you go to take it back out it will come out cross threaded. ive seen plugs come out all messed up before but the pan threads were fine but then on a dodge the nut broke loose on the inside of the pan with the plug 1/2 way out and he got towed to the deasler for a new oil pan. and if they had so much trouble with getting the plug out they shoulda told ya.
