Clicking noise starts/stops at random
Alright so i did a search and read a ton of posts but didnt really find my same scenario. So I have an 03 Ford Ranger XLT (134k miles) and have a strange clicking that seems to start and stop mostly on acceleration and stops once i get up to 40 mph or so. Its not really loud by any means, the radio needs to be turned down to hear well. I am just curious if you guys have any ideas. I just changed all the ball joints this weekend which went well (the noise was there prior but does seem a bit louder now). I did notice a lot of grease behind my brake caliper so i think the boot is torn somewhere on the CV joint so that seems like the obvious answer but if the cv joint was damaged wouldn't that clicking be constant and go up and down in pitch when accelerating or decelerating??? I don't know, seems like the answer is the cv joint but just doesn't make sense, the whole start/ stop etc. Pulley somewhere maybe?? Any suggestions would be helpful, I'm no mechanic by any means, just a do it yourself-er with limited knowledge/experience. Thanks in advance guys!!

If you have a blown boot and a lot of grease around the area, I would start at the CV. I've had them click and have had them crunch. First one with no abuse was a clicking. The second one I was in the city using 4wd and got some crunching on that one. Napa whole drive shaft should be around $80
