Need opinions... Sell Ranger and get SVT Focus?
I never thought that i'd consider selling my truck, but the time has possibly come. I can't get any unbiased feedback from my parents, so I figured i'd ask you guys. Here's the situation;
I currently have a 2003 3.0v6 Xlt Ranger. With the exception of the new guys, you all should recognize my truck :o)
I currently owe ~$7,600 on the truck. It has 60k miles on it. It's high bluebook is ~$12,300. I figure I can get between $10,500 and $11,500 for it, so I should be up by around $3k after I sell it and pay off the loan.
The car i'm considering purchasing is a 2003 SVT Focus... Silver with black leather interior and red inserts. 54k miles, literally in flawless condition, inside and out, driven by an adult, 1 owner, obsessive maintenance, and garage kept. Here it is:
The owner added an H&R Lowering Cup Kit, Borla Exhaust, Intake, and Programmer. His original asking price was $9k, but he'll sell it to me for $7,600.
So thats the gist of it... I basically wanted something with more pep than my truck, but better gas mileage, especially since I may be starting outside sales at the company i'm working at.
What do you guys think? I'd be reducing my gas consumption, reducing my auto loan interest rate from 7.25 on the existing loan to 6.24 or even 5.24 on the new loan. My only real hangup is concern that i'll regret the decision later, or that the focus is silly-looking compared to my truck.
ANY feedback would really be appreciated... what would you guys do??
have at it!!

The focus on millage is not a big leap. I own a 03 2.3pzev I get roughly 5 - 10 more miles to the gallon on my focus, Maybe because yes there is more pep to them, I am always catching myself speeding in it. A few people I know or who have driven a focus will admit the same thing. There are a lot of mods out there for them, Theres also myfordfocus.com that supports the focus. They also are great for sound systems. The hatch allows a lot of bass.
Now if you get rid of your truck im sure in a few days or even weeks you will wish you did not, You will find something you need moved. Its very hard to own both the only reason i do is my focus is mine is almost paid of and my payments are 150 for the focus, I bought it new in 04 paid 13k for it.
I almost traded it in for my ranger but i missed it that next day and told them no they could not have it, and now im hurting but I have both and one will be paid off in a few months.
Its a hard choice both vehicles are a lot of fun.
Hope that helps a lil

i got rid of my 02 focus svt to get my current 08 Ranger fx4. my svt was decked out, body kit, 18" wheels lowered loud stereo system full exhaust, everything. to tell you the truth the only thing i mis is the gas mileage, 23 city, 33 highway. my truck is only getting 15.6 mpg's right now. plus the SVTF requires 91+ octane. its all in what you want. im a mustang drag racer, 4x4 truck guy so the SVTF really didnt suit me very well

I say get the Focus. I had a ST and sold it to get my ranger. I do really like my ranger, but I do miss my Focus. I love sticks, my truck is auto =(. Besides that though my focus did get a little bit better gas mileage plus the tank was smaller so it actually did alot better.
I like focus's the SVT's are very nice, but if anything does go wrong with them, you pay alot more to fix them because they are "SVT's"
If you can get that for your ranger, do it, but down here in Las Vegas, rangers are a dime a dozen, I can't sell mine for shist.

I wouldn't get rid of it. For a while I thought about trading in my truck on a few different things and could never bring myself to do it. I am glad I didn't because I know I would really regret it. I am more content with my truck now than ever, I am close to having it how I want it. I didn't buy a truck for great mileage. You'll miss the function of the truck soon after you get rid of it. It wouldn't be a wise move imo. Keep it, it look great!

Id say keep the truck. Im with Rich when it comes to keeping it just for ability to see better in traffic and things of that nature. My brother has a stratus and complained the other day of going through a puddle he didnt think was as deep as it was. Supposedly the water got up to his grill. That wouldnt even touch a thing on a Ranger. Idk just my 2 cents
Nice truck by the way..havent seen it before today wanna trade?? lol

the focus is cool, my best buddy has one exactly like that but 4 door..pretty quick for what it is, 6 spd, its nothing that stands out but you can still have fun in...but it all boils down to your prefernce
i want those seats for my truck, ive been looking for a good priced set close to me forever

That's a clean SVTF, i've been in a few and they arent bad cars.. the gearing is kind of odd in them, but they are still peppy. You'll regret getting rid of your truck, trust me..hah. I love my car, but like said above- once you get rid of your truck, you'll actually find instances where you really need it! Although, with a hatchback there is surprisingly a lot of stuff you can fit back there.

one thing u should consider is "how much do you use ur truck?" if you haul stuff with it every now and then, is it worth keeping? do you have friends that you could borrow a truck from if you need one?
If you really look at it, ur not just trading a vehicle for a vehicle. ur trading away a tool.
and besides i dont see the point of buying a souped up focus...... thats like fixing the special olympic's. even if you manage to win the race your still retarded.
