CB whips on stepside with topper

I have a 2002 ranger stepside with a fiberglass leer topper. I was wondering how/if I could mount cb whips on the side right in between the topper and bed? I was thinking of getting at least one firestik 5' whip and possibly dual whips if that would work. Any thoughts or comments on my plan?

It would work, but it'd have to be a slim mount. With mine, I'm putting it off the side of the hitch in the back, but I'm going with a 102"

So even though the antenna would be partially blocked by the topper the signal would not be affected bad?

This may not be of much help but I run a Wilson 1000 with a very strong mag mount on top of my cab. I get good distance reception and transmission but have to be careful with low hanging obstructions.

As long as 75% of your antenna sticks about the roof of your pickup. There is ALOT of stress at the base of the antenna. You could sandwich the topper inside and outside with flat stock but I would have to see it. Let us know what you did.

when was the last time u saw a semi truck with 70% of the whip above the truck, if u are going to try that between cap and bed use a shorter whip and a spring so it is more flexible, if that don't work mount to cap and ground to frame

hall, we aren't talking about semi trucks so quit being an ***. He asked for my advice and I gave it to him since I know a lot about it after driving semi's for 20 years. The reason you don't see them that way on semi's is because they would break on thinks such as bridges, cave ceilings, fire escapes in alleyways and so forth. Next time you type something, think about it first before coming off like a moron.

you r the one coming off like a moron, I was not trying to be a smart ***, and I see u are still a rookie truck driver. I have been driving for almost 40 years now and was trying to tell him that most of the signal from an antenna is out of the tip and with it trimmed right will work just fine. He could also run a duel set up and give him even more distance.
