Did a few searches..., But I have to ask.

I have here a 2002 ford ranger edge 4x4, 4.0.. 250k miles.Well maintained. newer motor. All of a sudden, I notice a minor trans fluid leak on the garage floor. Than, reverse starts slipping like a bitch. !st gear works perfect. Will not up shift into any other gear... O/D light is blinking like crazy. Is the tranny shot, or could it be a relay?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

try to get the tranny code to help narrow it down but your symptoms do sound like the death march for that tranny 250k is a lot for an auto tranny especially the ones in these trucks but without the codes its pretty much a guessing game.

 

Hi , On the drivers side of the trans just above the pan gasket you'll see a wiring harness . The low band strut adjuster will be the closest to the motor & the reverse adjuster will be to the rear .
Loosen the jam nut & back off. then snug up the square adjusting strut till it stops . Then back off 1 full round & lock the jam nut on both bands . Now change the fluid filter if needed . Replace 1 qt. of fluid with a qt. of trans "stop leak " . If this don't make operation normal you'll need help . I am a 1969 Rocksprings Area Tech grad in auto mech . but don't know it all just a lot ? Biff
