On my old EDGE, i noticed a little rusting, mostly at the weld points on each side....weird......

A little steelwool will fix that though, and just keep an eye on it now and then.

um not to pee in anyones pool, but hears the deal with the black bars from what I have seen. Generally, the black bull bars have a plastic coating on them, which on paper works great, in reality its a nightmare. what happens is, water gets between the plastic coating and the steel and rusts, and then pops off that plastic coating. and it looks like crap, the problem is, it doesnt all pop off at once ull get spots, and the rest will be fine. the problem comes when u wanna refinish it. you CAN NOT sand blast the plastic coating off, the sand will just bounce off it and not touch it. so u gotta burn it off with a torch. D had a grill gaurd like that, and unfortunately i couldnt do anything with it, and we have a 'professional' sand blasting set up... (when your craftsman blaster doesnt work u call someone like us to do it 'right') which is something to consider. anything coated with plastic or a rubbery compound, your should steer clear of, cause its not a question IF it will rust, but WHEN, and when it does, its a DISASTER to refinish, takes FOREVER and is just a PITA.

ph and it generally starts on the sharp edges, and spreads, depending on your care, and the weather in ur area, could last 2yrs, could last 10yrs. I know my chrome stepbars, are just starting to get minor pits on the bottoms, and theyre waxed 4x a year

Get the black one and have it sprayed with Line-X. It worked great on my black step bars.

well i put in the order for the black one on the weekend and paid for it this morning... I think its going to be great... everyone who has black is saying the love it so its got to be good at the least... I mean they have a 5 year warranty on it so if it starts rusting in 5 years, which in my opinionis a long time, ill send it back or ill get it refinished with at a line x shop here in the city..

How long after you got the bars did you have them sprayed?

They are the stock bars, so they came on the truck. About 6 months after I had the truck, I started to notice lots of chips and a little rust. I dropped them off at the Line-X shop, and they still look great. If you "PM" me your email address, I'll send you some pics.
