I bought new tires about 2 years ago because the previous owner never rotated them and the fronts were in pretty bad shape. Truck was 1 year old with 19k on it when I bought it. Now i've had an alighment done as well which wasn't off by much. I've been rotating the tires every 3 to 6k miles and the inner edges are still getting chopped up. Anyone know why this is happening? Anyone else have this issue? I was thinking it has something to do with it being a 4x4 but it shouldn't because I didn't have this issue on my 96 ranger 4x4.

 

hmm, its 4x4... did you put in the 4.10's or did they come with it...

what size tires are you running?

Are you lifted?

If you bought them from the same place you got your alignment done... take them back and get 4 new ones....

I know at my shop, when someone gets tires and an alignment, if they come back in 20k miles and they are worn bad.. and can prove that they rotated them, we put 4 new ones on..

What kind of tires are they?

 

The truck is completely stock. No lift. The 4.10`s came stock. Im running the stock size tires. The original tires were goodyears and now I have yokohamas on it. They are wearing just like the goodyears did but dont look as bad because ive been rotating them.

 

Got a picture of it? Also it could possibly be your torsion bars are saggy. Might want to look at cranking them a little. I did 1.25 inches and now have a flat footprint when driving.

 

Cupping? could be the shocks.

How are you rotating them. Across the axel, front to back, or in an X pattern?

 

I figured this problem could be a number of things. I had the dealer check out the front end about 8 months ago and they said everything is fine. As for rotating, discount tire does it for me and they go from front to back. Good thing I have warranty up to 2011. This is good in case this leads into a bigger problem then it will all be covered. Im sure if something is really wrong it will show up before the warranty is up.

 

I had a sinmilar problem with the tire chopping. I would check the wheel bearings. I had one loose on the front left. How you can tell is when you are at highway speed is your steering wheel going side to side when in a sweeping turn. Also when you step on the brake does it seem to stop it. A quick tightening of the bearing with a slight back off fixed my problem.

 

On the highway the wheel is fine. No problems at all no matter what speed im going. Stepping on the brake there is no difference either. This seems to be a problem since the truck was made.
