3.0 won't start when hot

2001 3.0 When running a/c and truck is up to normal operating temperature if you shut it off, sometimes it won't start. Turns over, just won't fire. Let it set for anywhere from 30 min. to a couple of hours and it starts right up. Doesn't do this in cold weather.

Recently had plugs, wires, coil (or coils, I didn't do it) replaced and computer updated. Since then, isn't as frequent, but still does it. Once it fires, there's no "check engine" light or any tell tale signs of a problem.

Any ideas?

Thank you...

No codes thrown.

Replaced fuel pump, inertia switch, cam synchro/sensor, & crank sensor. Still intermittently won't start. Turns over good, acts like it's starving for fuel, although no backfire. Local dealer has had it for 10 days and can't find a solution. 105 degree weather will now cause the no start issue. I've had it to a private mechanic and the Ford dealer.

I'm "old school" and to me it acts like it's vapor lock. Maybe I need an exorcist.

Try something else simple.
Swap out the fuel pump relay.

I am having a similar problem with my Ranger. The Ford Service department updated my Ranger Computer and it would not start. It has been two days and still in the service department. ? is there an inherent problem with the Ranger once the computer is updated?

They replaced the fuel pump, again. The independent garage that initially replaced the fuel pump told me he used only Ford parts, but this one wasn't. The dealer is 99% sure it's fixed. So far, no problems.

Try this remove the serpentine belt and see if it starts. Obviously don't let it run too long.

Can you explain what your theory is about it starting with the belt off?

New development tonight. Dead battery. Started right up when jumped.

I was thinking that the heat could cause some funky problems with your AC compressor causing a lot of strain on the belt system, leading to strain on the engine. This would cause the starter not to turn the engine fast enough to start.

There is no theory behind the Rangers.....My Ranger is a 2002 Edge and if I disconnect the battery it will not start up. I have to call my mechanic to get it started. Once it is started, it runs ok....Still do not know what the problems are... While my Ranger was at the dealer getting the ECM reprogrammed it would not start and it was like that for almost four days before the tech said, "I removed the Belt and it started". they put my truck back together and hurried it out the door for me to drive it off their lot.... So the trucks we drive have a weird sense of habits.:

Please explain because that statement makes perfect sense.

Shelton,

My truck turned over OK, until last night, just wouldn't start. I usually have the A/C turned off until the motor's running.

I had to replace the battery today. I hope I'm done.
