Can i paint my driveshaft?

:crazy:Since the driveshaft will be off when I replace the UV's, i was thinking of sainding all that rust off and painting it.
Has anyone done this, or know whats the best approach. I want to do the front and rear shafts.

No don't do it! It will cause your truck to look better and the universe will implode killing us all! You don't want that on your conscience now do ya? Lol

maayyybbbeeeeee

i painted more or less half of mine, all I could get to with out moving it. It was pretty funny to watch someone else drive it.

chainfire 04-09-2010 03:45 PM

Yes you can do it, BUT you must paint it a neon color to insure that it stayes balanced.

I suggest Neon green.

Dangerranger01 04-09-2010 03:48 PM

Short answer: No.

Centrifugal forces will cause the paint to come off the driveshaft while in motion due to its high rpms. It'll coat the underside of your truck and the road with whatever color you paint it.

lol at the responses. yes you can paint it.

My buddys got his S10's driveshaft painted like that. It looks neat.

ColdNapalm 04-10-2010 12:54 AM

why yes, yes you can.

Downey 04-10-2010 12:58 AM

why would you think you couldnt paint it is a better question?

ranger4.0 04-10-2010 01:15 AM

Maybe he is worried about throwing off the balance or something?

Tys 4x4 FTW 04-10-2010 02:13 AM

slop some bedliner on it. balance? what balance.

rstangboi 04-10-2010 03:48 AM

you cant paint it....too many driveline vibes at cruising speeds.

i have heard that you can take it to a chrome shop or even get it gold plated though! but only cause its perfectly even that way.

chrome spraypaint sometimes works, but has alot of downsides to it

ranger_1999 04-10-2010 08:15 AM

well because the piece that meets the rear diff (UV carrier), i dont think i can paint, and the other side of the drive shaft as well...When i take it off I'll see..

Well thanks for all the laughs...candycane..lol

Rolldogg 04-10-2010 08:19 AM

The candy cane would make it look like a barber pole.....LOL

Personally, you should paint it Monster green, along with all the undercarriage suspension parts, then slap a Monster drink logo on the back window. Don't forget to also sport the Tap Out ball hat and the muscle tee.....LMAO

Oh yeah, have to wear white shades too......

wtf is a UV carrier? the U joint? You can paint over the caps on that..

ranger_1999 04-11-2010 05:49 AM

UV carrier, the part the houses the UV joint, since it has grease in it, and the part where the drive shaft ends and the rear diff begins. I am just worried about paint mixing with the grease and messing up.....

Whats the best paint to use??

Get that rust treated on the bottom lip of the rear door. It'll creep up on you pretty fast if not treated.

Other then that, nice undercarriage!! LOL

its called a ujoint and the ujoint goes on to the yoke. Grease should stay on the inside of the ujoint..
