To cap or not to?

Alright I've been thinking of getting a cap or what some of you call a topper. I need more room to carry things in the winter and don't want them to get all nasty from snow and road salt. Would it look alright on my truck with the light bar and cap.
I'm thinking something like this.

I say cap it, if it will serve your purpose and moneys alow then go for it, i had a cap on my 92 ranger and it looked good and was nice to have-just dont do what a lot of people do and buy mismatched color, get a color matched cap

gatorblue92 Aug 16, 2007 05:59 PM

personally i really like caps and would get one for my truck if they were not so expensive... i do think it might look kinda funny with the light bar though

Fazda Aug 16, 2007 06:22 PM

Anyone have a pic of a ranger with a light bar and cap?

yeah nice choice. i love caps. ordered mine also, should be in soon.

I love my cap. My wife hates it she says it makes the truck look like an old man vehicle (I am 25).

It is very nice to keep things dry and protected and I love that I can let my dog in there when I go for a drive. We haven't slept in it yet but I think that may happen soon enough as I really want to go camping.

Put a rack or basket on the cap so the light bar wont look so out of place

I was thinking about something like this to carry a full sized spare tire and still have full bed useage.

Don (elmovt) had one on his truck and it looked awesome

Cap it. You can always take it off in the summer if you want the sporty look back, but in the winter there is nothing better than havin a 4 x 6 dry box

I thought about doing this. Now my cap doesn't go straight back from the cab roof. It rises about 6 inches. I put my tire up there just laying flat on the roof and it was close to 9 feet high. I didn't like that because I drive off road through spots much shorter than 9 feet and the thought of my tire being ripped off doesn't excite me too much.

I say yes, only because if you need one you should get one and they look nice, but personally I hate driving a truck with a cap on.

HAZZARDJOHN Aug 17, 2007 09:39 AM

I say cap it, but get a good cap. I had to steal a pic of Grant's truck (My old truck) because I didn't have a pic at work of the topper on.

^ I think it looks great and it is the cadillac of toppers. I bought every option except for a roof rack. It has contractors windows on the side that open like the rear window, and the open like a vent window for my Dogs when I am cruising down the road. It has a Headliner and a locking gunbox. THe widow that mates up with the cab pops out for cleaning. and it has an LED third brake light (Had it replaced three times though for LEDs burning out) and an interior light. It does come at a cost though, I paid $1600 for it. The base topper is $895 with no options. It came in very handy when I went hunting and hauling the dogs. I also slept back there when I was camping. Best mod I ever did for that truck. I was anti Topper for most of my adolesence, but if you get a good looking one, you will never have a truck without one.

That isn't even close to the Leer roof rack. I would have considered that (Probably wouldn't have gotten it though) but the leer rack looked like an explorer roof rack, or you could get the bike rack, both of those options were ugly.

Now that's what I was looking for, that's things freaken sick. Is that a Leer cap, or is it something else. Got any more pics of how the roof rack is mounted down.

casfz1 Aug 18, 2007 04:24 PM

Thanks now I have to find an explorer roof rack, hopefully I can score one from a junkyard. I'd hate to see how much they are new.

Still could use a little more info on the mounts though. Oh well I'll just have to figure it all out when I get all the pieces together.
