cb radio setup

so i have an old cb from general electric. my question is, due to my lack of knowlage, how do i get the most out of it? i have a 102" steel whip off my right bedrail right behind the window. works good and i can pick up convo's around 10am-6pm. busy times. and it works good on the trails and on the road. but i have problems sometimes with loud screaming sounds ( i swear to god if someone says i have a poltergeist i'll lose it) , and other interference even when i try another chanel. someone have an idea how i can get better reception, or how to tune it? i dont kno how

How did you run the antenna wire mine is run under my bed over the gas tank and I had rfi feed back when I first put it in but got some wire loom the type the they use under the hood and it helped reduce the rfi try turning up the squelch on your cb also. Where do you have your cb mounted in your truck? Mounting ha a lot to do with rfi
