Time for a new motor

So after all this time and hassle, it has finally come down to a new motor.

My 3.0 loved out her short life...Now what?

What motor should I put in now? Whats the best bang for my buck?

In my opinion, I think it would be worth it to really upgrade to the 5.0 engine, rather than just replace with another 3.0 or even a 4.0. If I am going to do this, I might as well make it worth it right?

Just out of curiousity, the 4.0 would just bolt up to my tranny and everything? or would it be just like swapping for the 5.0?

How much do these engines run from a junk yard? Is that even reliable?

Help. I need lots of opinions. Im going to start taking it apart next week, but as soon as everything is gutted, I want to have something lined up to put in her. Let me know what you all think.

i would look at getting a chevy 350 to put in there... there are tons of parts for them and they are cheaper than the ford 5.0

with the 4.0 you would need the 4.0 tranny, the 5r55e with 4wd. the transfer cases should swap over fine.

you will need the PCM from whatever you get your engine from unless its another 3.0

if you can find a good donor truck i say the 4.0 swap, if not stick to the 3.0

Rotory engine!!!!!!

3.0 will be the easiest and quickest to replace. If you can afford some hard work and weeks of down time, than the 5.0 would be a nice upgrade

No Aaron that was you remember you pm'd me last week cause you and Evan were have your stupid arguments on AIM? I was just seeing if this whole "You're engine needs oil" was just a government conspiracy. I think they BUILD the engines to need oil so you have to BUY oil!

I am a girl, but I definitely have a thing for mud and more importantly my truck.

Im thinking about just doing the 4.0. A lil more money, a tad more work, but for the bit of power that I would be gaining I think it would be worth it. My uncle works on engines for a living in NC, so I talked to him tonight, and he said he might be able to ****** me up a motor for real cheap and rebuild it.

We shall see what my dad is willing to pay for....

I don't know, if she did go with the 4.0 SOHC I think it would be very well worth it if it didn't cost TOO much more. Only worth it if you go with the SOHC though. Good luck with whatever you do though.
