Hurst Shifter Leak Fix?

Hurst Shifter Leak Fix?
So I want to get the hurst, but have read so much about it leaking, and the screws coming out in the middle of a shift. I have read the fix over on RPS, where the guy bought some plumbing gasket material from home depot (the orange stuff), cut out the shape and double them up. Is that the fix that everyone says to use? Has it proven to work for a long period of time? And doesn't tranny fluid shoot out from that slit?
I just dont want to pick on up if its going to be a pain, I dont want to be constantly cleaning up and refilling fluid.

I put ultra black silicone on all the sealing surfaces and it still seeps a little, but not that bad. I don't think there is any true fix. It doesn't leak bad enough to have to refill. I spray the trans down with brake cleaner every once in a while to clean it up. To prevent the screws from backing out put BLUE loc tite on EVERY screw.
