What do you tow with your ranger ?

 

mulch, my ATV, yard scraps, beer LOL

 

Dodge's of course....lol

 

I have towed:
-16' Landscape trailer w/ 800lb. load
-12' Landscape trailer w/ 60" Dixie Chopper and all lawn equipment
Other trailers too, but nothing major
-1 Dodge
-1 Toyota

 

mine has towed a mixture of stuff....


from 4 wheelers to cars, to tractors, to bobcats.

 

Utility trailer, nothing special....Helped a couple people move.

 

Travel Trailer or a Boat

 

I usually tow a 10 ft. trailer with a sportbike and a Supermoto bike on it, and a dirtbike in the bed at the same time...........in the mountains............with a 2.5 L :)

Also tow my buggy, quad and hundreds of pounds of wood on that 16 foot trailer.... i have some pics i need to upload, may do it later

 

i pulled a wrecked grand caravan on a homemade trailor... that was interesting

 

I tow my race car in an enclosed trailer with associated gear and spares along with all the tools.

9x4 trailer with lawn mower or four wheeler

 

5,000lb chiper, 77 f-350 and i have had 1,000lb or so of wood in the bed, not all at once

 

3500 lb boat. btw, the SCT TQ tune makes a difference. It keeps the convertor locked longer which is nice.

6x10 haulmark v-nose. weighs 1,000 empty has a 2,000 capacity. got it last year out of income tax for 2,600. use it for the wife's craft sales and have helped a few freinds move. its 8' tall with 6' interior height so you dont have to duck while inside. bad thing is all the height = wind resistance. cant maintain cruse control speed in 5th even if empty. have to use 4rth and even then th vac guage reads 10-12 most of the time. but its a worthwhile investment and should last me forever. i havent really pulled much else with my truck.

 

So I should be ok towing a 2004 mustang right? car weights about 3,200 lbs

 

If it's on a 2wheel tow dolly you'll be ok. But if your talking a flat bed car hauler.. I'd say your pushing it.

Over inflate the rear tires to 45psi and keep the speeds down. (4th gear only)

Don't do this. Inflate to maximum manufacturer recommended pressure only.

 

He says to over inflate the tires, so that they provide the least rolling resistance.

I believe the reason the poster above me says not to is fear of blowout from prolonged freeway driving.

I'd say inflate to the max, or over inflate and keep your speeds down. Nothin over 60

Are you towing it to a race track? If you're drag racing it, air down the rears for more surface area,and air up the front to max for the least rolling resistance

Towed this size U-Haul a couple of times for 800 miles each way. It weighed right at 4,000 pounds loaded.




I also hooked onto a couple of my Dad's trailers before. The stock trailer is not fun, even without a load of beef! Look closely, even our stock trailer has mud-grips! I think the empty trailer weighs around 2000 pounds according to the sticker on the front.


I've towed the Bay Stealth a few times as well. It tows surprisingly well. It's a 19' center console with a 115 Yamaha. Not sure on the weight of the boat and trailer though.

 

Seems that people don't understand science... Rob, If you'll take the time to actually read the sidewall, you'll see the pressure is rated at a stated *load*.

The reason a towing related blowout occurs is because the side wall flex's excessively, creates excessive heat, and if overheated too long.. the material will yield at it's weakest spot. (aka sidewall blowout)

Over inflate the rears if your ***overloading*** them. Which you will be if you have too much tongue load. It'll also take some sway out of the whole rig as your going down the road.

Now.. if your using one of those two wheel rent-a-dolly? The kind that puts very little tongue load on the pull vehicle.. then don't sweat it. Just make sure the rears are up to normal pressure (33-ish psi)
