Cleaning K&N Filter
 

How do you guys clean your K&N filter? I know theres a cleaning kit for it but is that the only way to do it?

yep you need the cleaning kit. it is about $10. i suggest that you get the kit in which you spray on the oil i don't like the kit in which you squirt it on

yah...its gonna be a little pump-bottle of oil that u use to clean it with.
the instructions are easy to follow and accurate, so dont worry about that. u'll actually end up washing u're filter in the sink with water

but one thing!!!! it mite take a while to dry! i did mine and let it sit overnight in summer time and it was still wet the next morning, so give u'reself ample time to do it...

I hang mine with a paper clip from the front side of a fan... a couple hours of that and its usually dry. I usually let the oil set longer than I let the filter dry out...

i would use a fan to dry it out, it takes hours off the drying time. i used a leaf blower once and it dried in 10 mins, but they dont reccommend that method. something about damaging the filter... ;)

Using a fan to dry it as others have done is fine, or a hair dryer set on the LOWEST heat setting. The filter is cotton and a high heat setting could cause 'shrinkage'. Think of it as drying a t shirt for the first time, throw it in the dryer on high and you go from an extra large to a medium.

I couldnt see the fan being a bad idea because air runs through it constantly anyway.

Finally got that cleaning kit. Picked it up from AutoZone for about $10 bucks :D

Now i just need to find time to do it. Probably tonight over night.

Okay, well now i'm finally getting around to doing it. I'm drying it with a fan right now on low about 2 ft away from it. I'm planning on flipping the K&N over and doing the other side about half way though. How long does it take everyone to dry theirs out with a fan?

This is the method that I have used on the vehicles in which I have installed FIPK and panel filters. Once I have completed rinsing... let the filter drain for 30 mins in the sun, then flip the filter back and forth while momentum and gravity removes as much as possible and place in the sun again for another hour.
Here in Escondido (N. San Diego County), CA it doesn't usually take very long for the filter to dry.

I cleaned mine and just let it air-dry in the bath-tub in my apartment. I always go a "little" overboard with the oil, so it always makes a mess. I once turned a white towel a nice shade of pink from all the run-off before.
