Pre-RANGER

Ya, I came close to buying one. It was $200 with no title. I was gonna make it a toy for our property in Kentucky but decided to put the money towards the Ranger.
Even if you did restore it they are not worth anything. Ya it would be cool to have one but you would never get your money back out of it.

If I'm not mistaken, those were made by Mazda. One of my high school classmate's dad had one and drove it forever. They were kind of Ford's equivalent to the Chevy LUV (made by Isuzu). I think the Courier actually came first. I don't think they ever made a 4x4 Courier. At least I never saw one if they did.
Both the Courier and LUV were meant to compete with the Datsun (now Nissan) and Toyota small trucks. All of them were pretty tinny compared to what we have today, but the drive trains were pretty solid.
Our Rangers are far better trucks than any of the above though.

Yeah the Courier is Mazda based, from the B1600 and B1800 from 1972-1977 if I am correct.
They are cool little trucks. I have never seen one in person, but have always wanted one, as well as a LUV. One day I'll get one as an old skool minitruck project. A buddy of mine in Alberta has a '73 Mazda, fully bagged and everything and has a '74 Courier as a beater.

I remember the pronounced "poink" sound they made when you slammed the door
The front end kind of reminds me of the '65 Ranchero I had when I was a kid. It was the last year of the Falcon based Ranchero's. I had a blast with that one, but my girlfriend (now wife) thought it pretty much sucked, so I traded for a '65 Impala, which I later traded on a '67 Camaro RS. Damn, I wish I still had that one!
Thanks for this trip down memory lane!
