correct tire size
i have a2001 ranger 4.0 sohc. i njust bought it and it was repainted and the idiot that painted it painted the spec sticker on the door. my problem is that i have 245/75/ 15 on the front and the rear s are 245/70/16 on rear does any one know what ones are correct. and it is still stock suspension. also what would the widest tire i could put on without having them hit

My '01 Xlt 4dr 4x4 had 245/75R16's on it from the factory....yours should too. Why it has mismatched sizes? IDK...idiot old owner probably.
285/75R16 fits the stock wheels nicely, may have slight rub at full crank. 265/75R16 fit perfect and no torsion crank needed to fit them either. I had no rub. |
thank you for reply.
thanks for the info. i will go to the 16 i thought that was correct but i just wanted to make sure thanks again:

If you really want to know take your VIN to the dealer and they can tell you. Ford places so many different tire sizes on their vehicles its crazy. At work in our system for the Ranger there are 15 different sizes. Explorers are the same way.

Two different rim sizes thats dumb but 15's will be cheaper get a 31 1050

correct factory size for 2001 ranger 4x4: (i have one) is 245/75 16.
but i have 265/75 16's. (going to be 285/75 16's eventually) |
thanks for all the info btw the correct size is 245/75/16
|
Aye, my 2001 XLT 4x4 4 dr came with 245/75/16s from the factory also.

So your all sure going from factory 245/75 16 to 265/75 16's with no t-bar crank will be ok? I'm doing this very soon as i'm broke while buying a house and getting some 265/75's cheap! I flex the axels a lot so i was worried if they'd do any harm. Been reading thru all these threads and found a few on this. Hmm.

Here's mine with a small crank and 265/75r16's... Attachment 147382 |
Yup, 265/75/16's will work fine. I can't believe there are even different sized wheels, dumb.
Before you buy wheels, keep in mind that tires for 15" wheels are generally quite a bit cheaper. You can run 31x10.50's, some run 32x11.50's, and you can even stuff a 33x10.50R15 (bfg has that size) on a 15x7 on stock suspension. |
ya i like my factory wheels, which are 16's but perhaps a junk yard or used set of 15's will come my way and i'll bag them someday. My BFG KO's 245/75R16 lasted 2 years and about 38,000 miles. Now they are bald! But not one wheel'n flat so i was happy there, for what i've been over. Thanks for the info. I just remembered i'll have to get a 5th tire so spare matches in size. Hmm. Oh will this will get me buy until i have fiances again. Thanks again for the info and the pic!

You know....my buddy works at a tire store. He's a member here too. His truck came with the 16" alloys. It was CHEAPER for him to get NEW 15" wheels and new 31x10.50's than it was to get JUST new 16" tires of similar size of the same model tire.
|
What! Amazing. Ok, one thing i'm confused is on, a 16" wheel doesn't do anything thats a plus? Like stronger off road or? I've only had 16" on both my rangers. So the tire calculator on discount wont let me compare my 245/75R16 with the 31X10.5 . Will i lose any height with that? Footprint? Sorry just never really looked. I know 15" on other Rangers around town look big enough!

31x10.5/15 = 267/76/15 The 31x10.5/15 will give you a taller and wider profile. |
At some point Ford started putting larger front brakes on the ranger, and I believe stock 15's wouldn't fit on the front. However, many aftermarket 15" wheels do. Someone else with a newer ranger should be able to chime in.
