Maybe even less shipping since it would be a smaller box and not classed as oversized.

It would be cheaper, but still bloody heavy! It wouldn't be oversize, but it would still be hundreds of dollars to ship that much weight any real distance.

If you are serious about selling bumpers, just sell proper drawings and assembly instructions. Then your "customers" take the drawings to the local metal shop and have the peices sheared, then take it home, weld, paint and install.

You could build them for the "local" guys and get paid for your welding time, but shipping things like this is not cost effective.

take it with a grain of salt, but i think if you made those for around 600 bucks (shipped freight) without the grill bar, you would be golden. Many people are going to want to add their own flare, hell look at mine, but the base model is the same. A winch bumper for a ranger (93-97, 98-00, 01+) that is strong and will work. If you are out beating the brakes off of it and winching off it every time you take it out, i say you upgrade to 3/16" at least. My bumper is made of that and i have literally bounced V8 grand cherokees off it.

from now on the metal is going to be thicker. as i said i had the 1/8 in the garage already and wanted to see what i could do with it. the booklet idea would need a patent wouldnt it? all great points guys thanks. the final goal is to make some cash from selling some of these. get a SAS going turn it into a show truck and head to the local truck shows and sell some rollbars, bumpers, and offroad outfittings.

im not sure how much weight difference that would be as a whole. but i suspect with a shell that thick you wouldnt need as much frame support inside the shell as i have with the 1/8 so i guess it would come out about the same. as for the one i have built now with the 1/8 it isnt too heavy as you would expect i was able to pick it up myself and move it around with ease and i havent had any drop in the front end. and as i accidently found out last night the bumper is quite sturdy when i stupidly tagged my carport pole coming home from work.. ><

i just want to throw this out there but if this turns into a selling thread it will disappear. they will get onto you if you're not a vendor. just fyi because it has happened. they dont have a problem if its just getting input but they dont want you making and selling things for a profit on here.

How so? They aren't R-F bumpers. Mods/admin are not loosing money or competing for sales. Any sales (this has been mentioned) are between two parties and they don't have any jurisdiction. Look at when I got scammed last month. A Mod told me in the thread just that.
If that was the case, members that do sell a large amount of items would not be able to to do so. I'm sure if someone had issues with it, they would be told.

theres a big difference between issues after items have been sold outside of the forum and what they can post on the forum. I'm not trying to be a dick I just dont want this thread to disappear like has happened in the past. look at the link/quote below, you can see rick, the owner of the site, went through and got rid of the posts and after further prompting (by me) he came right out and stated the reasoning. I'm sure he doesn't have a problem with people getting input on their bumpers. he may not have anything to say about this either, id ont know, maybe one of the vendors complained. I just wanted to say that because jonpopexx made a thread on them and posted up pricing info which was when the thread got shut down.

jonpopexxx does nice work but unfortunately he isn't authorized to sell on RF. There is a procedure that he can initiate any time.

I would be happy to answer questions regarding vendorship via pm, let me know.

well first of all im new here second i came here to get opinions on my bumper in order to be able to sell them in my town. not neccessarily online, when some posters asked how much. i said how much i didnt realize i cant do that. i dont really have that intention but if ppl want one they can just email me or something i guess.. i just want a SAS and getting some bumpers out there would make it happen.
if im violating something on the RF forums plz let me know. or if i need to pay RF if i eventually do want to sell them here that works too thanks guys,

Wirelessly posted

What are you using for the front? 44 or 60?

Please don't take this the wrong way....

44+V8+38's= Street Queen or Death to axles. Ask me how i know... Personally. CJ on 38's with a 318 with a scout 44 up front. destroyed that damn thing everytime i took it out, and it isn't because i am hard on my rigs.

Your 9" will hold the power if you upgrade to 31 or 35 spline axles as long as you are not drag racing the thing. My explorer has 39.5's on 44 and 9". Its still has the 4.slo, but a doubler was added for the better gearing. Granted, it has chromo shafts and a strange center section.

So what the hell is my point? It can be done, but you are going to have a lot of money wrapped up into those axles if you stick with 1/2 ton junk. Jump up to a 60 front and 10.5 rear and you will be good. Even going with Superduty axles or Balljoint 60's will be fine.

Other idea on selling bumpers... Make Templets out of 1/8" plywood; let the buyer buy, cut, weld the steel.
Low ship cost, low overhead.

Or just the plans, either full size or e-plans.
