I live in upstate new york and we get pounded with salt. Those of you who live here know how ridiculas it is. You can almost sit down and watch youre truck rust in real time. I was wondering what u guys think. I should do. I nust changed the box on my truck and my new one is pretty much rust free and never had a bedliner. My old box was rusted right out under the bed liner up near the front. So ill quit babbling. Should i put the bed liner in the new box?

 

Hopefully, you undercoated the new box before you installed it.

 

I'm sorry I didn't specify its not brand new. my bad. its in excellent shape. came off a truck from down south. the bed has no rust but never had a bedliner for its previous life and is scratched up on the floor from the previous owner hauling stuff. I haven't put the bed liner in yet. my original box had the ford bedliner from the factory. and it rusted bad on the floor up front under the bed liner. ill take some pics today. I justy don't want to put it on and have it rust this box the way the other one did. cuz so far other than being all scratched up there is no rust and I haul stuff so don't care the floor is scratched. its a truck. I wonder why the other one got rusted so bad underneath the liner. its not from the bottom up either, I don't think. its the side above the gas tank. sorry I didn't explain good. ill take some pics. istill got the rusty box. I swapped it on my 2wd to put the good one on my 4x4.

 

With a bedliner of course. You won't regret it.

Instead of a drop in liner, have a sprayed in one done or a do it yourself kit. I used Bed Armor on mine and it is pretty good stuff. I really recommend taking off the bed again and putting some undercoating on it and while it is off, inspect your frame, especially around the spring hangars.

 

I did end up putting the factory ford duraliner plastic bedliner in. after 225,000 miles my bed looked much better than my dads did. his only made it to 175,000 miles and both were close to the same amount of years. his was about ruste off. So I think the bed liner helped. I put new shackles and hangers on this spring. I actually just put deaver f31 leafs in yesterday and flipped the shackles. i also removed the block that went under the stock leafs. sits about exactly the same height as it did befor. i also coated the frame with a spray of oil while the box was off. I just got the coilover conversion done yesterday too. fox shocks. just got to order some for the back now.

 

LINE-X. I actually wonder if LINE-X'ing the underside and outside front would be beneficial as well...

 

I guess I'm the only one that disagrees, unless you use a sprayed on liner. The only bed floors I have seen rusted out had those plastic liners in them. Water, dirt, etc. gets under them and doesn't dry out.

 

I agree somewhat. I came to the conclusion that it does rust quicker where I live without it. I live in upstate new York and they put so much salt on the roads. my dads truck had no bed liner and mine did and his rusted right off the truck long befor mine. that's why I did decide to put it in my new box. my old box was rusted only in the front under the bedliner. I think due to the fact that all the crap runs to the front because the trucks sit a little higher in the back. every spring I'm gonna pull the liner out and clean the box to make sure there isn't a whole bunch of salty water just sitting in there.
