Diesel Ranger

I'm a diesel man. I have a 97 F350 Power Stroke and a 97 TDI Jetta. I love diesels. So I figured the next big step in life would be to convert my Ranger to diesel. I know this is a huge overhaul involving replacing the radiator, fuel system etc etc. However my big problem rose when I tried to figure out what engine to use. I was originally going to slap my extra Power Stroke engine in the truck but didn't feel like wrestling that huge engine into the small compartment. So my next brilliant idea was to find a diesel engine out of a Jetta. After all those are only small four bangers. But i instantly hit a problem. My Jetta is front wheel drive which means it runs off a lateral engine. So basically has anyone ever attempted this? If so what engine did they end up slapping into it? Any advice from someone who has? All thought and comments are welcome.

There's one guy who's just about done with his project. He managed to fit a 6.0 in his Ranger. Here' s the thread: https://www.ranger-forums.com/f34/6-...-ranger-46628/

As for the front wheel drive, I haven't heard of anybody converting over to it.

Yeah. It will work fine. Just make your own engine mounts and make an adapter to run your transmission. Our race shop has a circle track car that has a VW 8v in it running through a Toyota 5spd tranny to a quick change rear end. Works great. An engine is just an engine. It doesn't matter which way it faces.

Oh trust me Id love too. But hot damn the engine barely fit itself. Id have no room for the radiator, alternator, PS pump etc etc. It would literally just be a engine haha. And forget trying to wrestle the turbo into it

if he were near mexico i wonder if hed be able to find one in the junkyard and bring back the motor ... seems easy enough to sneak it by if his state doesnt have emissions laws

i love the 03 4 door that has appeared on here recently ... id love to have it especially with the 2.3 and 5spd
