I had that happening on my 99 ranger. Long story short, all you need to do is change the turn signal stem and switch (Which also has the emergency flash integrated in it) and you will be good. It actually shorts out inside the contacts, not on wires. If you take the cover off of the steering wheel column you will see it. I think the oem part from parts plus was like $50...

Keep in mind the only thing ford truly makes is the sheet metal and does final assembly. everything else is done by the lower. Granted its ford design. Its hard to say if its the lowest bidder using cheaper materials or is it ford specs making this little annoying issues.

Minus the weak auto trans, 3 drive shafts, leaking valve covers gaskets X2, and a lower ball joint at 12k this has been a very good vehicle. It does have 150k on it now with only normal maintenance and a lot of abuse.

How does it cost $700 for a new driveshaft installed and u-bolts tightened. Thats an old fashioned raping.

That is because he opted to spend extra and get extra lube before the rape....

3 front axle pinion seals before the SAS. 2 starters. That is it for major stuff.

Weird. I had that happen twice since I got the truck. I locked up the brakes in a neighborhood the first time, and shut down the car thinking I was about to go up in flames and it just stopped. The second time I just blew out the smoke and kept on truckin'.
