when im driving and hit my brakes to stop.....they are are making a awful craking noise ! it sounds like a something is shreading! yaw know what it might be? Thanks so much!

Brake pads are manufactured with metal wear indicator tabs. When the brakes pads wear down the metal indicator tab scraps the rotor. Get new pads and possibly new rotors.

 

could be your brakes.....

or your tires are squealing in pain from the force of stopping

 

Caliper slide pin? Rock in the brakes? Metal-on-metal contact? Wheel-bearing?

 

Time to take the wheels off and check. Thats the only way. Then you can tell us what it is.

took the wheels off .......... every thing looks fine the pads and the rotors are new as of 400 miles ago and it didnt make the noise before i changed em?????

 

Did you also inspect the rear drums?
It is not uncommon for the friction material to come separated from the shoe.

 

Now more information is coming out. You need to give as much pertinent information as you can or have available. A break job 400 miles ago is information that should have been given.

I would check the rear breaks and look the front over real good for anything rubbing. Including on the wheels. My big cobra’r wheels would rub the lower shock bolt when I lowered the truck when I turned lock to lock. Actually the DJM’s had no lock to keep them from over turning. The first trip through the parking lot of the mall and I wiped out the wheel weights.

Your truck makes the noise without the wheels turned I am guessing? And only on the breaks? Is it lowered or recentally lowered? Can anybody else notice the sound if you dont alert them to it. Somebody thats been around or driven a car for more than a week. Like a father/mother/much older brother... neighbor thats good with cars? Does it seam to pull one way or the other? Where does the sound seam to come from? The floor boards the rear of the cab? Does it get worse with brake pressure (louder the harder you push to stop)? can you feel the grinding in the break pedal at the same time? can you feel the breaks grinding if you hold on to the door grab handle or while your arm is on the window frame? Can you feel it in your hands or your seat (butt) when its making the noise?

this is going to be very hard to diagnose over the internet especially if you looked and dont see anything. It might be time to take it somewhere.
