Do it your self tint...
I was going to try to do one of those tints you can get at the auto part store. Anyone done this and how did it come out? Is there a How To's?
|
I did my quarter windows, I pulled the glass and still screwed up the mounting holes.
If you want to make it easier get a tint kit of ebay so they are precut for you. Tinting is an art but the ranger has mostly flat glass so its worth a shot. |
i did a tint kit off ebay. didnt turn out that bad.

its all practice! btw, he saw my car today not the ranger. i tinted the care about 4 months ago or more https://www.ranger-forums.com/attach...ine=1334100016 |
I have not had good luck with it, but I did just tint a license plate cover that turned out well. Took me about four tries to get it perfect though.
|
If you take your time and your careful, its not too bad. I've tinted a few windows that have turned out pretty good. I'm thinking of doing my back glass for practice before getting a new truck since i've never done a slider before. Maybe i'll make a how to.
|
I am going to do the back window on out Honda Passport and the fronts in both the Ranger and that so they all come out easy. Figure setting it up off the rig makes it easier. They don't look like a home owner did them. Nice work guys!!!!
|
just lay the film on the outside of the window then cut it along side the weather stripping and that will give you a perfect cut. leave about 1" on the bottom so u can line up the top edge of the window. its pretty easy. I use a "hard card" and a bluemax squeegee i bought on ebay for about 25 bucks and combined they work great

What do you do with the extra 1" of film at the bottom? I'm anal about shit like that and would want to apply it to the unexposed glass.

diy 5% over factory rears and 5% up front pretty hard to see. flash light necessary. but still take you time and it will come out good. right around now is a big no no for tinting with all the pollen in the air you'll get little particulate bubbles. GILA brand from Autozone
https://www.ranger-forums.com/attach...ine=1334112709 the only glass i did not tint is the windshield and that is 35% and here is a comparison picture side by side. the red ranger is tinted 20% https://www.ranger-forums.com/attach...ine=1334112709 |
Dave... you did your tint yourself too?
Looked great from what I remember. Hard as shit to see inside though. lol |
Biggest issue with kit supplied tint is the quality of the tint film itself. A low amount of yellow dye found in most "kits" or small quantity rolls which causes the tint to turn purple faster than that of a higher quality film with a higher amount of yellow dye.
With that said, I used to be able to do it (did my Mustang), but lately take it to the local tint shop that will do two windows in 15 minutes and gives you a 2 year installation warranty, and tint quality 5 year warranty. |

bought the best film i could find at autozone, watched a few youtube videos and came out damn near perfect, aside from a few specs of dust near the weather strip but you can see them unless your inside the truck and looking extremely close for them. No bubbles and im very pleased. Im quite the perfectionist and its about as good as it gets.

I did mine myself though it did take a few tries(im impacient and have ADD, plus i kept wanting darker), i found the darker you go is easier cause the 20-30% will leave creases if it bends but the 5% i used was thick and didnt have that problem, my rear-side windows(supercab) are starting to buble a bit around the edges cause i couldnt get all of the dirt off around the trim, i may redo it all when i tint my front windows but i want to fix my power windows first, also has anyone done a brow themselves? i want to go low but it seems like the mirror is gonna be a pain

now get the windshield done 35% it's like wearing sunglasses and you dont need your sun visors anymore. At night it's all about adapting to the change. I cant even tell i have it now, new passengers are like WTF why so dark, mind you my side windows at the moment and UN tinted and appear 20%. I will be going back to 5% in a few days. With the windshield at 35% it appears PITCH black and you cant see in the truck what so ever no matter where you look. Pics
but damn dude your windows look good. the shield being done really makes a difference. |
