Got rear ended while pumping gas today....

By a brand new Ram 2500.

Im standing, freezing my *** off... and here comes this old man, cruising right up. it doesn't look like hes gonna stop so I wave to him to stop.... he hits....

My damage: scratched my ball.
His damage, bent the living CRAP out of his front license plate.

He says to me 'Well your hitch sticks out like a foot.
So I said, 'well had the hitch not been there, your insurance company would be replacing the bumper on my truck.'

finished pumping my gas, and told him, 'Next time, you should slow down, and don't try to get so close to people, have a nice week end' got in my truck and drove away.

Which is the reason, I never take my hitch off. People seem to have this extreme infatuation with attempting to get as close as possible. Then act as though some how its my fault

I'd probably still be in jail if someone did that to me...

I also have my hitch ball and tongue installed all time, makes other drivers to keep more distance from me on highway and downtown traffic. never been rear ended since that.

People have backed into my flag mount. I watched the other day when I parked close to a guy on the street who went into Tim hortons. He came out and touched the flag mount to see if it was gonna bent or something.

He kept his distance from me but almost read ended the parked car infront of him. Teach him not to park in the lot...

I almost got into an argument with another guy that does the same thing. He has a handicap placard but if that spot is taken at Tim's will park on the road and walk twice as far or more just so he doesn't have to park in a regular space.

I guess his shitty fiddy w/a spoiler is sooooo important.

I once was pumping gas at a corner station that had pumps in an L formation -- a set up front and then most around and on the side. Needlass to say, there were blind spots because the pumps were across from a vacuum and the air pump. A guy walks out not 20 feet from where I was pumping gas nearest the station, gets in his car, and backs straight into my front bumper. Granite, he barely touched it, but he was to lazy to get out. He muttered, "Hey its O.K. No damage" and drives off. I was stunned and stood there shaking my head. All he had to do was pull out a couple feet and turn the steering wheel. Amazing.

This thread's cliff notes:
People are stupid and can't drive.

Two weeks ago, I found out that someone hit the corner of my rear bumper and tail light. Tail light only got scuffs, but the corner of the bumper crumpled inward. i got PISSSSSSED.

I'm still pissssssed. :(

In my old car, a 95 Ford Aspire, I rear ended a guy in a Tacoma that had a 3" drop hitch. (I hadnt slept in 3 days and just got out of class) All it did was bend my front plate under my bumper, I get out and the other guy does as well, He sees the plate, says you got more damage than I do, I told him its just my plate, he said have a great day and drove off.

About 2 weeks after I bought my truck, I was parked in the school's parking lot and some dumb *** hit the passenger corner of my front bumper, left a little 2x2 inch dent about 1/4" deep. I was pissed as my truck was pretty much in mint condition when I bought it (Far from that now) now I had this stupid little dent in my bumper. And it stood out like a sore thumb as the chrome was polished.

Shouldn't a cop be more aware of his surroundings then that? lol

Hmm didn't know it was illegal? Why wouldn't you be able to leave your hitch in?

because its illegal lol.
no idea why, didnt really look into it much.
but a while back in the city they had nothing better to do i guess and they literally sat and waited for campers who just dropped their trailer, and immediately ticketed them for leaving the ball in the receiver. them cops have nothing better to do.

"I am sorry officer but the hitch is locked on and I don't have the key... I promise as soon as I get it I'll take it off."

Might have to try and look that up. Kinda curious.

Wow I've never heard of this law, but I used to have a Frontier that had a hitch locked on when I bought it, and the guy I bought it from lost the key. So the whole time I owned the truck I never took it off. No one ever said a word to me about it...

My hitch has saved my truck a couple times. Was in the school parking lot one day and a kid wasn't paying attention and drove right into me. Just a little paint scuff on my hitch but his bumper and hood were pretty much ruined. Basically the same thing the other times.

had the mother in law back her Caliber into the back of my ranger a while back(Apr 01, 2012) hard enough that it rolled about 15 feet in gravel(granted i messed up and parked in neutral, but still), doing this to my ranger:

had the damage pretty much fixed before they got back from church... did about 900 dollars damage to her car though...

the repaired shots^^... note: the fix only cost me $2.49 for a can of flat black rattle can paint...

exactly why i leave my big drop hitch on all the time. and what the f, the guy had the nerve to try and make it your fault by saying your hitch was out too far? ---- that guy. i hate people like that. just admit you messed up and own it. dont try and shove it off onto someone else.

^^i call it the shin destroyer.. so many people walk right into it. lmao
