Door question

2004 XLT. Immediately inside each door frame and aligned with the door lock mechanism is a "L" shaped metal that extends into the door frame toward the door lock. It is not movable. What is it's function ?

Part 28 ? , it holds the key lock part 26 in

It is movable, it pulls out to release the key cylinder so it can be changed
