to dual, or not to dual

I am going to be putting a flowmaster super 40 on my truck soon, i was wondering, should i go dual exhaust or keep it single.

which is louder, what sounds better, what are the power results?????

help me out, thanks

Go dual... Ive got Gibson Cat back dual on my truck.. its amazing

tluafeD Mar 6, 2008 01:53 AM

what about dual super 40s??? one sounds pretty good, but i dont want it to be too loud, know what i mean?

I woud think opening up such a small motor with duals would sacrafice a lot of low end torque

tluafeD Mar 6, 2008 02:04 AM

yea, thats true. i like my low end torque. im gonna go with just the flowmaster super 40 with 2.25" tubing and maybe a 3 inch pipe. along with the whole exhaust system.

sound good everyone???

My gibson actually gave it more tourque..Its not too loud either...The pipes arnt as big as the super 40's... but it sure gave my truck an ass load of power that it didnt have before

well, i do have a V6 4.0 so i dont think i would lose much power, if any. but i dont wanna risk it and lose money in the process if it does end up taking torque away.

Definitely duals! Look into the flomaster super 44 I hear its 10x's better then the original 40.

Midnightrider Mar 6, 2008 02:14 AM

I have a 67 mustang with a 302 v8 wih full length headers 650cfm carb and i wont even run over 2.5 exhaust.

Open exhaust will give you more top end but s****y low end

nah, i know someone who has a super 44 and he says the super 40s sound better on the ranger. he has tried a lot of different stuff and his favorite by far is the super 40. im just gonna do that for now, if sometime down the road i want duals and wanna risk power loss turning a super 40 into a dual....then maybe i will go dual. lol but for now, im stickin with the original plan. thanks for the advice tho

hmm 40 series flowmasters on anything other than muscle v8 to me is a waste no offence its your truck and its best too tune it the way you want. 6 bangers just never have the same sound as an 8 no matter the size 6

yea, i know what you mean.
i have heard them on a V6 ranger and i like the sound and sound level it puts out. im not lookin for extremely loud muscle car stuff, just a nice low aggressive rumble. and thats what is drawing me toward the super 40 on my ranger.

Midnightrider Mar 6, 2008 02:29 AM

id like to know how it turns out, id like to do something to my ranger but i have a 3.0 so not much can be done with out it sounding riced and i need all the low end i can keep.

tluafeD Mar 6, 2008 02:32 AM

ill post pics and video clips when i get it done.

for now, if you wanna hear something similar, search fx4wannabe01 on youtube. and watch his vids.
