What a dilemma..

So I have this problem...don't worry its not anatomically related. I have a hard time deciding on mods.. I mean Im really into ultra functional..rock sliders, custom fabbed bumpers, axle swaps, regearing..etc etc.. then I go and look at some of the rigs on this awesome site, and see so many cool ideas that I just love..but there a little..I dunno. its not that they're not functional. but maybe they are more show truck type mods..LED's under the dash, explorer consoles, painted trim etc..I don't really have a word to describe it. I just have a devil of a time combining functional with the nice smooth look. I think I solved the problem though..I'l just get another ranger!! then I can do both. So by the time Im like 70ish..i should have them both done.. Anybody else really have this problem?? anybody have a solution other than two trucks.. i personally think brianjwilson has done a damn good job of combining the two sides..

Do what you like, not what someone else will like, as they dont own your ranger.... you do!

I'm always getting new ideas for my truck. usually though, costs and (lack of) funds shoots them down. I agree with you though that functional mods are better than "pretty" mods. But hey, do what you want and do what you like. it's your truck! None of the rest of us are going to drive it to work/school/the grocery store every day.

It all depends on what you're planning to do. Those who don't wheel and use their Ranger as daily drivers usually go for the cosmetic mods. Those who do wheel and off-road go for the functional mods. On this forum I've noticed a good balance between these two different types of members.

I've run into this dilemma before thinking about getting KC's, skidplate, lift, etc...but then I realized my truck is more of a DD and a very light casual off-roader, especially with my 2WD. I've added BFG's and traction bars but I'm probably not going to go much further than that. I hope to get a trail rig sometime down the road.

isnt that the truth.

personally i just dont really care, i do what i want. some mods are function to me but may not be to others, and some mods are more cosmetic.

something can still be functional and still be cosmetic in their eyes.

like hood lifts, LED 3rd brake light, tonno cover, explorer IRS diff cover....

and the list goes on

i think you fellas may have hit off on something i wasn't necessarily intending..its not that Im searching for approval, or looking for ideas really. Its more I was just curious if anyone else had this problem. Im gonna do what I want to, how i want to. That sometimes gets me in trouble, but hey, i like it thats all that really matters. I just like my rig to be very capable off road, yet look real good too. I guess what it all boils down to is my truck is neither a off roader or a street queen. I drive it daily. But I drive it daily everywhere. I go on roads, off roads, some pretty hardcore trails that I never stood a chance on, and the freeway regularly. So I just have a hard time sometimes deciding what to best way to build my truck up is. I was just wondering how many others out there were in the same situation...

well, my truck has all of the exterior "goodies" that are both for show and function: grillguard, hella lighting, 32's, roll bar, bug deflector... you get the idea. just because it looks good, doesn't mean it doesn't serve a purpose!

I agree with you about Brian's Rig, it is hella nice!! I kinda have the same problem as you except $$ decides what I will do next. I don't really have the $$ for functional offroad parts but if I did then I would have them. When combining the show truck and functional sides I decided to do rope light around the carpet which I never use. I custom fit my cb which looks showy but really functional. I was aiming for showy when I undercoated my truck myself but I got functional and showy out of it. I guess I'm kinda like the other guys. If I had $$ it would be a different story.
