EGR Excessive Flow

So I am new to these forums. To start it off I have a 2002 Ford Ranger EDGE 4.0 v6 4x4. Recently my check engine light came on. I took it to the mechanic and it was the EGR Excessive Flow. After this is fixed will my gas millage increase because I do not get that great gas millage.

its should yes.. also doing a tune up on the truck would help plugs wires fiter changes yaydayda

Yeah I am having them do the 35,000 tune up also

try replaceing the DPFE first its cheaper....I just went through this and i got a hint of better mileage, but i have a lot of stuff on the truck so anything over 17MPG is great to me

if the valve is stuck open then you might see a increse in MPG but i dought its stuck open, if it was the truck would not idle and start rough. its probley the exhaust pressure sensor or DPFE

you need a data scanner and a vacuum pump to check for proper operation of the EGR system. the DPFE sensor should be at around 1.00 volts at idle and rise to almost 4.00 volts when the valve is wide open.

how hard is it to change either the egr or dpfe? i have the same code and was gonna just do it myself but thought i would ask first

Hi all,

I had the same problem with my 2000 Ranger, but the light later went off. If it doesnt come back on, should i just keep driving it? Or could it possibly do damage?
thanks.

you had the egr excessive flow code popup, which caused your CEL?

sauterd 04-05-2010 06:51 AM

yes

The DPFE is really easy to change, only 40 bucks at advance and then take advantage of the 1 year replacement. Mine has gone out the last 3 years each spring, I buy one, then the next year get that one free haha

ok, thanks, but isn't there other parts that could be bad as well? (egr valve?)
