Help Quick, Truck Torn Apart! OHC ???'s

Ok, I have everything hooked up except the speed sensor. The how to I read noted that Bob found that 04+ Rangers hook to a Gray/Black wire in the SJB on the brown connector. Well, correct me if I'm wrong but the SJB is at the passenger side kick panel. The brown connector, is the only connector that has wires coming out of it vertically, the other three exit their connectors(white and black) horizontally. My problem is, I can't find a Gray/Black wire in the group that exits the brown connector. I'm I missing something, anyone help, it's like 19 degrees out and I'm trying to hurry before dark!!1

That's where I got my info from. I printed it out. But I can't find that wire where it says it is.

I've never done an 04+ Ranger, hence having Bob involved. Got your PM but sorry I have no info on your year!

Hey, put it back together all but that -- as cold as it is, it will most likely work fine. The algorithm that uses the VSS mainly only affects it during warmer weather. Leave the wire hanging in the kick panel taped off until you get the info you need, and button up the top and enjoy it for now.

I might just have to do that and wait for Bob to chime in.

Well... I got everything up and running except the speed sensor. I just ran the wire to the SJB in the passenger side kick panel and capped it off. I managed to get my LED's working in place of the regular dome lights. I used a dremel to cut away the plastic that surrounds the factory dome lights and slipped the LED's (almost like parking lights) in place and wired them up. They look awesome, I just need to change out my rear dome light to a clear color to match. All in all, I love my OHC! Best 12.08 I have spent on my truck in a while!

The gray/black is shown in the brown connecor in the 2004 schematic but it is missing in the 2006 diagram. I don't have an 05 Wiring manual but I'll bet its like the 06 and there is no gray/black at the SJB.

As an alternative, you can pick up the gray/black at the back of the instrument cluster or at the 4x4 Module.

It is gray/black and it needs to be connected. You should be able to find it at the cluster or at the GEM.

The VSS wire on mine was on the connector that was farthest forward in the SJB. Mine is a 04 though.

Right, the one that Ford lists as brown is the one toward the front of the SJB. It looks like Ford thrifted the gray/black wire to the SJB for 2005-on. Actually, I can't see any reason why it was ever there on the 2004's.

Bob, you don't need to see a real truck to know -- you're like a...uhhh...truck prophet! Yeah, that's it!

Thanks Bob... when you say 4x4 module... your talking under the hood? Sucks that I already ran the wire to the passenger side kick panel where the SJB is.

No. For 2004~2006, the 4x4 Control Module is inside the dash just to the left of the audio head unit.

If you look at John's console instructions again, you will see a photo of the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) that was used through 2003. The 4x4 Module in your 2005 truck is in almost exactly that same location. There are two plug connectors to the module - one black and one gray. Tap the VSS input of your console into the gray/black wire in the gray connector of the 4x4 Module.
