Hi I just recently bought my flowmaster 40 series delta flow..... I was wondering if their would be any big difference in having it dumped under the cab or bringing it out in front of my rear tire......I have a 1999 Ford Ranger 3.0L V6 by the way....Thanks

Im sure you will cut down drone if you run it in front of the tire.

I ran my exhaust dumped under the cab for a bit, the difference between that and even having just straight pipe run to in front of the rear tire is very noticeable.

thanks I just installed it and have it dumped and not really likeing it im gonna bend a piece of pipe and have it in front of the tire....i want it to sound more clear not how it sounds now......will it make it louder if i have it in front of the rear tire than having it dumped

I ran a super 44 dual out, and dumped it after the rear axle. Awesome. Then I decided to cut the dumps off and run tips out the back.

Most people say that having it dumped drones more, well it droned a LOT less when I had mine dumped. Weird.

if you have it in front of the rear tire, if will sound softer inside the cab, don't really think the sound changes that much outside the cab, maybe a little softer, but the big change is how loud it is when you're in the cab.

how can i make it sound louder and clearer

^ maybe putting a series 10 muffler on it. It's the most aggressive sounding muffler that Flowmaster makes. I think somebody on here has a set up with a cat back exhaust, series 10 muffler, and dual out under the bumper. I have a delta 40 series by Flowmaster and dual out behind each rear tire. It's very clear and kinda loud. But I am thinking about getting the series 10 for a more deep, loud sound. Most Flowmaster mufflers are either 2 or 3 chambers to reduce loudness but make a more crisp sound. The 10 series is a one chambered exhaust to produce the loudest sound possible.

^ sure thing man. It may be a while though. I just spent almost $500 to have my seats refurbished (driver side) and covered in two tone leather and got a light bar too lol... Let me see if I can't find that guy on here that had a 10 series. Will get back to you asap.

You might be able to talk to 04DSGMike (Michael Kotlar) about his 10 series set-up. I am going by the muffler shop that my family has been using for years and will talk the owner and his thoughts about the 10 series. I'll get back on here tomorrow and report.

Yeah Mike said it would give a deeper sound w/more throat. I'm just wondering how duals would sound. I started that thread in hopes of someone chiming in w/duals.

Oh I gotcha man. I take it that Mike has a SI/SO with his 10 series then? My bad I thought he had duals. Yeah I would be interested about the dual thing with a 10 series too. I'll get back on here after visiting the muffler shop. Being a single stage muffler I would say it would be a tad cheaper than a full size one or two chamber one....we shall see.

Visited the muffler shop today and I am getting a Series 10 muffler put on with SI/DO next Tuesday. I will be the guinea pig on this and figure out it how does. He explained to me, like Mike said, that there will a noticeable loudness and tone gain which is what I am wanting. I'll let ya know how it goes...

my buddy has a 10 series dumped.... its is insanly loud....drone is an understatment...food for thought

Well I don't have mine dumped; it's a dual out behind each tire. So hopefully not too bad. But I am going to ask to keep my 40 series muffler just in case I don't like the 10 series and want to switch back.

^if you dont like the 10, I call dibs.

Haha ok man. It might be for sale on the classifieds, but I hope I like it though. They guy at the muffler place told me since it was a v6 and I have all my catalytic converters on, it shouldn't be that bad. But he did say it will give the tone I am wanting, which is that low grunt sound.

Update! Got the 10 series put on today. The sound is great. Taking off or revving sounds intense. With a SI/DO and the piping I have that comes out behind the rear wheels, there is no problem with drone or over excessive loudness. Of course this is just day one and the muffler has hardly been broken in.

i had mine dump right out of the muffler before rear, ran like that prolly 2 years. finally got anoying, put stock back on and it dumps behind axle. i love the look of no tailpipes.

Well I had a Delta 40 series which is a 2-chamber design which supposedly gives better performance compared to the original 40 series also with reduced interior tone and resonance issues. I think the super 44 is most like the original 40 series. But either way you will get more tone and loudness. It's just day one like I said earlier; so hopefully as the muffler continues to get "broken" in, it will have even more tone and depth than it does now. I know that was the way when I had a 50 series and went to the 40 series.

Here in TN we think louder is better cause we are rednecks, so I like the loudness but that's just me lol.
