Could somebody tell me what part this is?

Or should I say could someone tell me what part is missing.

Noticed that the metal nut/wafer thing had fell off the bushing and the rubber was just hanging out in there. IDK if this is dangerous not having the nut on there or... This is on the drivers side body mount. I couldn't find this part at rockauto, and napa didn't seem to have it.

Anyone know what the "official" name for this is, part #'s would be great also!

Looks like a body bushing. You kinda need to get that fixed. You might be able to simply replace the missing bolt, washer and nut, but, I would take the bottom bushing piece off and see what the mount bracket looks like, since the truck was nice enough to show you a problem. Oh, and if nothing else, take the bushing off and keep it some where to prevent it from "falling off while going down the street."

Def. a body bushing lol, but I looked at the other side, and it seems to me that there is only that locking washer that has fallen off, the bolt is still there you can see it poking out in the pic.So I figure just get that metal nut piece, and thread her back in. Unless I'm missing something here....

Definetaly a body bushing. If I'm not mistaken that cable in the picture is the parking brake cable making this partucular bushing right under the drivers side cab ( you have 6 body bushings for your bed and 6 for the cab). Basically it is what attaches the body of your truck to the frame of your truck. You need to pull back the carpet on the drivers side floor so you are looking at bare metal. You sould see a two inch-ish circular rubber grommet right in the middle of the floor board. Pop that out with a screw driver and you should be able to look in the hole and see a bolt, probaly a large torx head. You may need to put a pipe on the end of a ratchet to get the extra leverage so you can break that rusty thing loose. The bolt is probly rusted through or the metal part of the bushing the bolt threads into has rusted away. Goodluck and I hope this helps.

Oh so the bolt and that flat metal thing are like one piece, and theres a torx head screw in the cab that holds it altogether. I was thinking it was more like a stud coming down. And then you tightened it underneath the truck with the metal washer that must have rusted off.

Excuse the ignorance, I've never worked on this "part" of my truck before. Your post helped tremendously, I'll get her fixed tomorrow!

No problem! I never knew either until I did a body lift a couple months ago. But yes the bolt comes down from the top and threads into the bushing. The only thing I did for my body lift was put longer bolts in. So hopefully that will get you started but if the threads in the bushing are rusted out i am unsure of how to replace the bushing itself. :(

So I tried to get that bolt out today, and its not happening. At least not right now lol. It looks like the threaded part of the lower bushing is rusted on to the bolt that is coming down from the cab. It ended up being a regular socket, not torx, 18mm I think. Anyways I managed to twist it a bit, but I don't have anyway to keep the bottom part from coming loose via a wrench or what have you. Suggestions? I 've already sprayed the **** out of it wd-40, so the only thing I have left is to cut the bolt off or the threaded part i guess...

Also, does anyone know where to find these things? Noone online seems to have it, napa doesn't either. I hate to pay like a million bucks from the dealership for this little part. Would there be a problem with getting a grade 8 bolt, nut and a washer and tighten it down for now?
The rubber is still good, and I'm pretty sure most cars have the bolt and nut system for the body mounts....

in order to get the body mount bolt out you will need to heat that bolt. there is red loctite on it from the factory

i had this same problem when I did my body lift. A torch worked for most of the bolts but i had to cut two of them off. The upper & lower bushing with the metal bracket was $35 from Ford. Not sure how much the bolt would be though.

Thanks guys, that helps. And $35 isn't too bad at all, I'm still reeling from when they tried to charge me $12 for a spark plug...geeze lol the parts guy and me don't like each other after that one. So torch it, and then get some vise grips to hold on to the bottom part? Theres not too much material to hold on to though, I have a feeling that my dremel will be finishing this one for me....

Ok guys I got the bolt out today when I had a lil time and it was warm. I actually didn't need the torch, I just worked that b!@# out of there. Guess the wd-40 finally got in as well.

Anyways, could one of you tell me if that threaded metal sleeve (2nd pic I posted) belongs with the bottom bushing (the part that fell off) , or is part of the bushing between the cab and the frame? Was going to knock it out with a hammer, but didn't want to break something else if it supposed to go there! Please excuse the stupid question, never worked on these parts before.

I found all the hardware I need for under $5 vs the $40 plus the dealership wanted. Was just going to get some grade 10 hardware, bolt nut washers etc and reuse the bottom bushing. Anybody see a problem, function-wise on going this route? I looked up pics of other suvs and trucks and many of them just use some diesel bolts and nuts to hold the body bushings together. Same with body-lifts I think as well. I wonder why Ford uses this metal bracket instead?

I don't know exactly how the botom bushing works, but i looked at mine and on the first picture you posted it looks like the bushing was missing a big wahser that covers the whole bushing. It is probly about 1/4 inch thick or so. I attached an image of mine. I think that is what the bolt actually threads into, but i dont know for sure.

Ya that metal washer in your pic was what fell off my truck, so I was going to reuse the bottom rubber bushing, with some new washers and a nut on the outside of the washer instead of the threads in the washer itself. Thing is , once i got the bolt and rubber off, I found that there was another metal part with threads on it poking down from the cab. You can see the part i Mean in the second pic posted. I'm trying to decide if it belongs with the bottom bushing and the washer rusted off of it and now its just hanging there. Or if its part of the upper bushing between the frame and I should just leave it and thread the new bolt through it.

Hmmmmm yeah I didn't know about the second set of threads. I would say if you can still make it work with that set of threads in place they can't hurt right?

Is that the second set of threads you are talking about the thing poking down in the second picture you posted?

Ya its like a metal tube with threads on the inside, on my pic you can see the pointy end of the bolt poking down from it. I think I just figured it out though. Found this pic on the explorer forum: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...d.php?t=327582

I guess the bottom washer and the threaded washer tube are like two piece, maybe press fitted together? So I think we are talking about the same threaded part, but mine is just so fubar that its hard to identify. I think I'll take it off before I install some new hardware, unless somebody can give me a reason not too haha

My truck rode exactly the same with that bolt all the way out, so god only knows how long its been broke.

Ahh yes, that is no doubt the same piece. I can look up from the bottom of mine and see the pointy end of the bolt so that are definetaly pressed together or something. I see no problem with nut and bolting it as long as you put a really big wahser on the bottom side because it looks like that piece that fell off of your truck acts like a huge washer that distributes the force on the whole bottom bushing. So if your going to go that route you might want to get a bolt that comes all the way out the bottom of the bottom bushing and put a very big washer similar to the one that fell off. Or have you looked into just buying that piece from ford?

And also what does the bottom bushing even do? You might be able to just leave the bottom bushing off and put a nut and washer against that metal bracket. I see no difference.

I'm not sure what the rubber actually does, it seems like a nut and washer right up against the metal would hold it together just as well. Maybe the bottom rubber piece absorbs some of the vibrations or something. I did look into the ford piece, I think they wanted like $40 plus for the bushing and the bolt cause I def need a new one of those as well. Its not alot, but when you compare it to like $4 and change its hard to justify the cost when your on a budget. Especially if it functions the exact same way or maybe better. Obviously the oem part isn't fail-proof, or I wouldn't be replacing it to begin with lol.
