Bye bye exploder! YOU GOTTA SEE THIS!

I got rid of the Explorer yesterday. It weighed in at 2020lbs (1 ton and and 20 pounds)

I tried to get as much steel weight in the truck including the old brake rotors, all the exhaust stuff, some old wheels, every door panel except the driver's side door, and of course the hatch.
Needless to say it was quite jam-packed full!

There she is...all strapped down for her destiny of DOOM.
Kinda reminds me of that feeling you get when you go by a chicken truck knowing all those chickens will be killed very soon.....ya know?

It was quite a tear-jerking moment driving to the junk yard considering how much time and effort I put into it that vehicle. On the way along, I had to snap a pic of the tow-truck behind me, following me to the graveyard:

Once we got it weighed and paperwork filled out, came the fun part. With the tow-truck and all, it weight 17,000 pounds.

The weight alone of the claw wouldn't bust through the sunroof glass.......

But once he started to squeeze, it EXPLODED

With a single grunt of that diesel beast the Explorer was lifted to it's final resting place before being scrapped.

Not in too bad of shape. The tow truck driver had to remove one of the wheels and tires I had thrown in there for extra weight because they don't "accept" them or whatever, so I had to bring it home in the truck of my car!

Then came the crushing. I didn't realize you could compact a vehicle so easily using a big claw like that. It gives you an idea of how heavy it is, and how powerful the hydraulic rams are.

All done. It sure is smushed pretty good, huh?
It's amazing to be around the kind of machinery that can lift 2000 pounds without even trying.

It's final TOSS into the scrap metal pile.
Let the 'Ploder rest in peace.

I wish I could made more than $90 off of it, and had to pay $70 of that to the tow bill.

Indeed smushed, to say the least!

I didn't sell it because it would have been a bare body and frame, and who wants that? Plus the rear driver's quarter and the front passenger's corner had damage, along with the front right spindle from the impact.

Ahhh, I see why you haven't returned my call Tim! Yeah, you sold it for $90 and payed $70 to have it towed... but think, you won't have to hassle with cutting it up and disposing of all the junk that way!

According to national ratings and what I've been told, scrap metal (steel?) is going for $87 a ton. I can't find a resource for that online.....anyone???

Also, the Explorer sat in the driveway overnight while it rained, allowing all of that carpet and padding to soak up an extra few pounds.
