Ford Ranger and Import Campers

Hi,

I own a 2011 Ford Ranger, Sport. I love my little truck. I have heard some mixed messages regarding carrying a camper on it. I have seen some rangers that have the small import campers and I have seen some that carry the pop-up campers. I have been looking for any type of regulations or information on whether or not it is legal or safe to do so. I have heard that the springs have to be beefed up and one needs to get camper tie downs. Is there anything else I should know. Can my truck carry a light, import camper?

I have looked into this subject myself but since i have the stepside bed version no slide-in camper would fit. Also there is some big safety concerns with a slide-in camper vs a tow behind camper, the ranger is already a top heavy vehicle adding the weight of a camper + high wind forces while driving could cause you to flip without any sudden driving actions(really not worth the risk).

As for towing a camper behind the ranger there are several lightweight designs that would work well but id avoid heavy ones because it will harshly effect your braking power while towing it and never go past your max towing recommendations to protect your trans/engine.
