i have a '89 ford ranger 2.3 high output. my problem is, it idles rough and when i rev it up, it cuts in and out at 3 grand. changed the fuel filter and checked the map sensor and its good. i dont know what the problem is. any suggestions?

is it automatic?

if so, its supposed to do that. quit reving your motor in park/neutral.

change the plugs to help idle.

ok changed the plugs and it knocked out the rev problem. but my next problem is driving at 55 it runs good as long as you have your foot on the gas but once u let off it starts missing and cutting out and backfireing. it does this at any speed when u let out of the gas. runs great as long as you are pushing on the gas.

Check your IAVC (Idle Air Valve Control). Clean it out and see if it will run better.
