pulse vacuum hubs

I was reading through the how-tos the other day and saw the one to turn the pulse vacuum hubs into live axles. What is the benifit of doing this. I don't know the differece between a live axle and the pulse vacuum hubs I guess. I was just curious if this was a worth while mod. Thanks!!

PVH have a reputation for poor reliabilty. That's the motivation for doing away with them.

You can either do this mod because you are bored or because they went out. The most common problem with the PVH system is a vacume leak causing them to not lock up. Doing this mod will make it so that they are always locked 'like' the newer trucks. The PVH hub is very reliable and a very good design, except for the vacuum lock up.. lol.. so yea.. it makes it quite a bit more reliable, and is so simple!

I agree. Blew my PVH hubs out climbing an hill pulling a car out of a ditch. (he went over an embankment.) WOuld have cost at least 2000 to replace the blown seals hubs and such. Thanks for the How-To Jason

So if I blow them I can just do this mod and they will be like the newer trucks. I remember blowing em on my 94 B-4000 and it cost around 600 bucks to put new ones in both sides. I guess I will wait till I have a problem with them before I go tearing em apart.

If you blow the seals yes. If you blow the hub (break off teath/grind off teath) no.
