frame rusted through

frame rusted through
I really hate to think of junking this sweet little 1993 Splash short bed, step side, 2.3, but I am not sure what else to do. I was taking off the catalytic converter in order to replace the vacuum module on the tranny and noticed rust through in the frame just south of the spring, right above the passenger side wheel. Not a lot, but several small holes, one about the size of a quarter, and some up to the bend at the top. I imagine that it is bad in other places too, but they have not rusted through yet. I called a couple of places who specialize in frame repair, but they will not touch it because of liability insurance and ultimate responsibility. I don't mind doing the work, but I surely don't want to put any more money in this if it is not repairable.

I would pull off the bed and see just how bad it is.
Rear frame, cab back, can be replaced but not an easy thing to do.
You can certainly clean out rust and rust holes and treat them with Navel Jelly, to turn rust into inert material.
Then weld plates in places that need reinforcement and primer and paint the rear frame
And then there is a body swap, find a 1993-1997 Ranger with bad body and GOOD FRAME and swap your 1993 body over to it

Thanks for the reply. The rusted out holes are up front above the coil spring. Probably in the worst place. As far as I can tell from under the truck, the rear looks rusty, but acceptable. There are several products on the web that will stop it from rusting any further, but that would just cover it up. I am concerned about the safety. If I was a welder, I might try welding a plate on the frame.

My mistake I was basing position of rust on:
I was taking off the catalytic converter in order to replace the vacuum module on the tranny and noticed rust through in the frame just south of the spring, right above the passenger side wheel.
So was thinking Leaf spring.
yes, several products to remove and stop rust, they will also remove paint so be careful
Arc welding doesn't generate a lot of heat to adjacent areas and a good welder can get into tight places, so I would check around to see how much to get it welded
If the frame is not bent now then reinforcement will work

After re-reading my post, I did not specify that it was the front wheel. Sorry about that. There are some local places that do auto repair and welding. Maybe I should check to see if they will tackle this problem. They are only paying $175 a ton and this truck might go 3000 lbs soaking wet. This truck has several issues, but this frame problem is a deal breaker..
