Seat in bed

Has anyone ever seen a bench seat set up in the bed of a pickup. I want to get a jeep wrangler bench seat and put in my bed (it would be bolted down and have seat belts).

From what I understand this is not illegal in Florida. Thoughts?

Seen them in a few trail rigs but for off road only...they are cool but not very practical and you dont get to use them haha. I would do it though.

You'd have to make some mounting plates to go under the bed mount bolts, unless you wanted to cut through the bed and mount to the frame. I've only seen it on trail rigs, and they should always face forward, not backwards like a golf cart.

Didn't realize I would need to add extra support, I guess the bed is pretty flimsy

the metal on the bed isn't strong enough to hole the seat inplace in a collision......and yes, you should face the seats foward......and you will have to have a seatbelt that is attached to a stronger point that the bed itself...

Years ago, Subaru made a small truck with seats in the bed. I think it was called a "Brat". If done properly, I would think it would be legal to do.

One of my moms friends used to have an old pickup probably from the 60s that had a bench seat in the bed.

Correct, you are. My uncle had one of those back in the late '80's. That was a cool little pickup. They were all-wheel drive and actually worked fairly well in the snow here in Michigan. As for the seats, my brother and I used to ride back there all the time. Ahhh, the good ol' days. Man, I feel old right now...

On to the legallity, I once asked a police officer about the very same thing and he said "no way, even with seat belts." I never dug any deeper though, so who knows, they might be. I'd call the local state police branch and ask someone there. They tend to have the best grasp on these types of laws.

If I was gonna do that, I'd want to build some sort of cage to protect them in case of an accident.

When me and my friends get crazy out in the woods, we throw a picnic table in the bed and see who's the last one to stay in the bed after a decent trail ride and hill climb

Yeah, as cool as they were, they rusted out faster than anything but a '60's Valiant. However ,I think those things had rust on them before they left Chyrsler's parking lots.

That is correct. They had seatbelts back there and all. A little claustrophobic but it was done.

we picked up a corner part of a couch and one kid wanted to ride it. so we were crusing down some trail probably around 15-20 or so.. and all of a sudden a creek bed shows up.. nothing too big, no water.. but really rough, a few decent rocks.

i hit it goin 15 or so.. and was like o ****! are u ok?

and he was just like "DUDE, THAT WAS AWESOME! I GOT AIR!!"

..good times
