Fuel Cap LIGHT??

I just noticed today while the sun was shining on my dash at the right angle that I have a ( fuel Cap ) indicator in my dash, it has never come on in 3 years of having the truck and I have left my cap off before. Has anybody ever noticed this particular light before?

I wonder if my light is burned out because this particular truck was ordered with ALL options EXCEPT leather, it was the top of the line for a 1996 ranger, all packages all creature features, towing, skid plates EVERYTHING but leather.

It might be burned out.

I am thinking that its a suction thing. I have heard of gas caps going bad and losing their suction or seal. This would then toss a code or make that light turn on.

i know i never had a gas cap light on my 01, but the check engine light has come on, and that was due to the gas cap not being tight

I pulled my cluster last year and replaced all bulbs with GE 20% brighter bulbs.

I don't remember seeing separate bulbs for those indicator lights, hmmm isn't it just the color of the PLASTIC covering that exact area? Anyways i'm glad to hear somebody else has the feature.

What year truck do you have???

I didn't know Rangers had gas cap lights. I know my old Ranger had Explorer gauges on it and the fuel light would come on instead of the check engine light.

Yeah, I noticed the gas cap light many times. All of a sudden it comes on driving down the road for no reason. Then after a while it goes out until the next time I get lucky enough to experience it again! Lol for some reason the gas cap light and the check engine light for a bad gas cap o ring, are 2 totally different experiences. Weird truck!!
