Icon14 FUEL CELL QUESTIONS

Ok as most of you know I am pretty hard on my truck and it is starting to show, I have a couple of questions about fuel cells. I was riding and punctured the front of my gas tank.

1. Which one plastic or aluminum?
2. Can I use my fuel pump I have now or do I have to get another?
3. Sending unit is included with some cells but that is just for gauging how much fuel is left right?
4. How do I get the fuel lines that I have to buy for the cell connect to the factory fuel lines?
5. Can I just run the fuel pump off of a toggle switch or will it mess with the ECM?
6. And last but not least are they street legal?

Thank you for any help at all!!!!!

I can answer a couple of your questions and I'm sure that there will be many others to follow. First you need to be sure you want to take up bed space by putting a fuel cell back there. Next does your bed have a cover? If not you may want to get one to cover the cell. Why? Dirt and water do not mix well with the filler cap and wiring. You should get a new external electric fuel pump. Hook it up to the ignition not a toggle switch. All fuel gauges will tell you what is left in the tank. You will need a seprate fuel gauge because most sending units are not compatitable with the Ford system. The ECM has nothing to do with fuel delivery, the only thing it is worried about is fuel pressure. And yes a fuel cell is street legal but I don't think you need to worry about all of these things. Just get another tank to mount in the factory location and then buy or build yourself a skid-plate to protect it. Problem solved.
