engine swap help

Hey everyone I have a 1987 ford ranger 2L 4 cylinder engine, I just got a old beat up pre runner, I believe it has a fuel injected 4 cylinder engine 2.4L, I was gonna do a swap into the 87 cause the 2L has a knock, I need to know if this swap is possible, the more info the better, thanks.

I would think that if the years are correct and the manufacture is the same I don't see any reason why you would have any problem. There are no computers to worry about and the block should be the same size dimensionally (long word there) so I say go for it!

Ford Lima 4cyl engines came in 3 sizes, 2.0l, 2.3l, 2.5l, and were used in Rangers from 1983 to 2001

All had the same engine mounts and transmission bolt pattern

So swapping them isn't too hard.

BUT.......they did change from carb to fuel injection and from distributor to full electronic, these all required computer changes.

Good read here on the Lima engines: The Ford Ranger 4-Cylinder Motors - The Ranger Station
