Advice on rear disc brakes upgrade
So I just spent 1500$ at shop to have a bunch of **** on my truck repaired but instead of them replacing the rear drums i said "**** it, ill upgrade to mustang disc brakes" because it seems that I am ALWAYS replacing rear drum hardware.
So anyways, is this the right kit to buy??
Ford Racing Rear Caliper Bracket Kit with Rotors (Rear Pair) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!
But that is to upgrade to cobra brakes, aka the wrong kit?? I have 17 inch wheels but I also have 15 inch wheels so I think I'd prefer the GT kit.
Also here is full kits,
North Racecars Brake Solutions
But they're the same price for cobra or non-cobra application, which seems kind of strange to be the same price.
Any advice would be useful. I'm not sure of any junkyards up here so that's kind of out of the question unfortunately. I was hoping to find a kit online.

And FX4Wannabe01's brother has cobras and I believe they test fitted aftermarket 15 inch wheels and were fine.

that is a really good questrion... but it will probably cost an arm and a leg to get the parts from ford

did a quick search and it looks like the '10 ranger has the same disc setup as the explorer.
according to fordparts.com
caliper bracket - $169 each
caliper - $83 each
rotor - $105 each
parking brake shoes - $138 each
plus more money for all the little things to hook up the parking brake.
That's close to a grand if not over.....

With XLT's selling for over $20G it would have to be really badly damaged to end up scrapped. You would need to find a '10 or newer. I am not sure about the '09s.
My local dealer has '10 starting at $18100 up to '11 at $28400.... that's just crazy..
Good luck in your search.
The Mustang swap is looking real good about now.

Quit these stupid and asinine thoughts of 2010 disc conversion. Do some searching just here on RF and you'll see proof of '10+ trucks have a totally new axle housing and NONE of the components interchange onto '09 and older axles. It's not just like the explorer set up, but it's similar to just about all RWD Ford's of current generation. But by all means, go ahead and try to swap it on. You'll just be spending 3 times if not more than you would for a BETTER set-up for far far cheaper that's been done dozens of times on fox body's and rangers and is proved to be a very good setup.
SN95's on '09 and earlier axles FTW. Cobra FTMFW.

This is the first I have heard of this but was also wondering if something was changed for the disc's. I see there is a change.
I also noticed that the rear axles need to be removed to remove the drum setup. I have to many other projects so mine will most likely be staying drum.

I know this word is used too much now adays, but it definitely applies here: the difference in braking power is EPIC.

Dude....you're over thinking a little bit. Pulling axle shafts is EASY and VERY FAST work. Pop the cover off, remove center pin in carrier, push in axle shafts, remove c-clip, slide axle out, done. Onto bolting on the caliper bracket then sliding the axle shafts back in. Literally, a 'stang rear disc setup can be done in under 2 hours and on the road for the test drive after bleeding in under 3.

My other project I am trying to get to is a frame up on a '68 F250. Been sitting sence '06. I'm working on getting it into the garage to work on it over the winter.
Sad to say but the Ranger is on the back burner. I even picked up a LED line of fire thing for the Ranger in the Beginning of Aug. I still have yet to install it.
I'm such a slacker
