FX4 question

Just curious, Did they produce FX4's in 94 year models? i love the look of the FX4 stickers and would like to put one on mine. If so, what is the difference between my 4wd 4.0?

Um no, you can get stickers on eBay though.

Just about everything! your 4.0 is a OHV and the newer ones are a SOHC. Your suspension is coil sprung with i-beams where newer rangers are IFS with torsion bars. Your rear suspension MIGHT be the same as an fx4 (not referring to the level II model) but i think they used the 7.5 more often in your body style though instead of the 8.8..

Redneckstone 09-10-2008 08:40 PM

^^^^ all 4.0L received 8.8...

clintusaf 09-10-2008 08:44 PM

Thanks for the info. man, they really changed the rangers from my year m odel huh? what does IFS stand for? sorry, i am a newbie mechanic. and my truck does not have torsion bars? i do know i have the 8.8 rearend.

Redneckstone 09-10-2008 08:52 PM

no you truck doesnt have torsion bars..

Independent Front Suspension..IFS

start-1997 not TONS changed there was a few changes in suspension wise.. but nothing drastic

now 98+ its a whole nother ball game..

clintusaf 09-10-2008 09:04 PM

i thought i had independent suspension in the front?

clintusaf 09-10-2008 09:05 PM

what's the difference between IFS and I-beam?

Redneckstone 09-10-2008 09:14 PM

you do have IFS....

the proper name for your truck 4x4 is TTB=Twin traction beam...

your gen 2wd is I-beam

now 98+ is called SLA = Short long arm

Redneckstone 09-10-2008 09:23 PM

04BlackFX4 09-10-2008 09:26 PM

Thank you.. So according to that it should either be the R5, R6, R7,R8. Since the FX4's came with the 8.8 right? Sorry just new to this stuff.

clintusaf 09-11-2008 05:46 AM

i have 3.73's with the 8.8. You can look on the tag on your differetial and it will tell you what gears you have without having to look up a code.

04BlackFX4 09-11-2008 03:58 PM

Ok i looked at my door jam and under axel it says R7.. So that means i have the 8.8 with L/S 4.10 gears. From my understanding thats a good combo correct?
