gearing for the highway?
im runnin 255 60 15 tires....wat would be the best gearing for the highway cus im gunna be drivin on the highway a bunch soon and right now ive got 4.10 gearing and it has to be runnin at 3000 rpm to stay at a good speed

well with 27 inch tires you could go with 373's which is another typical gear ration for rangers, another thing to consider is going to a bigger tire to help balance out the gears, 31's would help this.......
Bigger tires would help, but if they are heavier it would defeat the purpose if you were worried about gas mileage. But like he said, 3.73's are common and also 3.55's, although they are few and far between.
on a 3.0L i'd probably suggest the 3.73 gears..
yea ill prolly go with 3.73 gears
3000 rpm at a good speed? at highway speed i have 4:10 maybe 2200 rpm with a 3" lift and 33's thats at or around 70 mph..
you also have a 4.0
Wow that's crazy it differs that much from truck to truck. I have 4.10's, 4.0, 5spd, and at 2000 rpms I'm at only about 60 mph. 2200 wouldn't be 70mph for me, then again, you are auto!
yea im runnin around 3000 rpm just to stay at 75 or so and its killin my gas milage
yeah a 4.0L auto will def. hold a lower rev at 70mph than a 3.0L auto and for sure a 3.0L manual
My speedo is at 50mph at 2000rpms........I've got 26" tires, and 3.73 rear gearing, so that would be about 3.91 adjusted rear ratio. (according to an internet calculator)
ok i found out today that my dads mustang has 3.20 something gearing in his rear end and he wants to swap to a 4.10...would his gear work well in my truck with the 27 inch tires i have and if i getr something like 29in tires later on will it still work well on the highway?
