Was given the best present ever today

Well to make a long story short my instructor at school is giving me a turbo 4BT cummins. First thing that popped into my head was hello new ranger =]. So i know i have a few things to over come such as engine, and trans mounts. a transmission in general, bell housing adapter etc. But those all seem to be minor things. What came into mind first was WEIGHT. So first i was wondering if any one knew how much the 4.0 weighed that way i can see how much more im going to have to beefen up the front end. I know the 4bt is around 750 lbs and 130 HP @ 1200 rpm and around 230 ft-lbs of tourqe.......Also if any one knows where i can track down a donor truck im all ears =]. also has any one on here done the swap b4?

You better have a good cash flow. A project like that isn’t cheap.

Oh i know they arent cheap but im addicted to diesel and have been wanting to do this 4ever. I figured seeing as how the engine literally fell into my lap it was time to make my dream a reality.

The way you worded it sounded like a bad Chinese translation

lets see you type good with excitement from a free 4BT. i know my typing would be a little off.

OP, keep us updated and start a build thread in the projects area.

Yeah, keep it updated. All your answers are on that link above.

Expect to spend about $10k to convert it.

Keep us updated!

Only 230tq? Are you sure? I don't know much about the 4bt but that doesn't sound like much at all for a diesel.

Figs 10-27-2010 07:53 PM

wow! thats alotta cake! I can say for sure I would not do it. Go put that $10k towards a Level II Twin Stick.

sniper_101 10-28-2010 10:08 AM

Sweet! Should give it to me!

I could be wrong, but 10k sounds on the high side of things. With the right resources and knowledge you can get a lot of things for a good price or free.

Still want to put one in my lowered 2wd Ranger for a sweet street-truck.

JoshK 10-28-2010 10:28 AM

Well $10k was for a 12V. But the only guy I know putting this in a ranger has $5k into it and its not running yet.

brianjwilson 10-28-2010 10:36 AM

Nevermind

Figs 10-28-2010 10:25 PM

well who ever said good things cant get better was wrong...i walk into school today and the instructor said "Yo there is another 4bt in trailer do u want it for spare parts?" with out missing a beat i replied with a is the sky blue? yes i want it. And i brought the first engine home today and i must say the stranger must likely would have down a wheelie down the turn pike with that 750 pound engine in the bed lol. ill have engine pics soon. first thing im doing is a complet tear down and rebuild.....How about some color ideas for the block and valve covers...
