Yea I had one on my 91 2.3. I presonally thought it sounded really good. Was very cheap, and gave the little 4 banger a nice deep throaty sound without sounding like a ricer.

I am not quite sure, but it is a muffler that is packed with glass somehow. You can buy them on most Auto sites like jcwhitney.com or other stuff. Around $60-$100. I think so. They sound good on muscle cars. Deep rumble sound.

They're packed with fiberglass.

Here is the link to my old set-up: https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ad.php?t=50749

I am now running a Borla Muffler and I love it. The glasspacks weren't bad, just loud for my taste.

loud doesnt bother ME but i have a 2.3, will it still sound ricy? (You cant escape that sound because of it only having 4 pistons.) but i mean will it have a much lower pitch.

Trigger01 i looked at your sound clip/video. it sounds like with the glasspacks it has a kind of muffled sound but still loud. giving it a much much lower pitch in sound.

lol. i have just a single jba chrome tip coming out same place as yours. its liek the only muffler that can make a 2.3 sound decent.

That figures lol. cause it looked like it chirped a lil at first. than the clutch just slipped for like 15 seconds. than the tires started spinning again.

after you started moving forward it looked like you clutch was slipping bad again cause it sounded like your rpms were hella high when you were going like 5. :P

PS: Power braking in a manual takes talent.

i cant say for sure without owning a v6. but the two extra pistons are what helps with the sound of the engine. the liter deals with the bass. and the muffler deals with the pitch.

in other words. a 3.0 will always sound better than a 2.3 but depending on what muffler you have depends on the bass. and other varibales invloved with the sound. a glass pack. if im right on my guessing, is kinda like blowing exhaust through cheese cloth lol. the emmissions still escape but the fiberglass barrier adds a lil back pressure for torque and creates a deeper more muffled sound. but because of its design.(Not having inline V shaped baffles to bounce the sounds off.) it will still be loud.

Where as something like the 40 series HAS the v shaped baffles but (Guessing) no glass? so its loud as hell and creates a totally different bass. but has the same pitch.

also 2.3's are prone to that popping sound. rather than a v6 with masks the sound better with the firing of another piston. which changes the pitch as well.

MY question is. other than having no hard proof to back up a single thing i just said. is there anyone on here that can yay or nay what i just said?

I had a Flowtech glasspack that was y-piped after into a couple of 3.5" tips. Sounded very throaty and loud for a V6.

i know the popping sound mine makes is when i let off the gas, thats just the unburned fuel igniting in the header, i think.
