EGR Question - 2002 Ford Ranger 3.0

Does my 2002 ford ranger 3.0 have an EGR valve? if so, where?

Does my truck have a dpfe sensor at all that I could change out?

Thanks.

There is no EGR or DPFE on a 2002 3.0L Ranger.

What years do have EGR valves? I think I do, 2000 Flex Fuel.

Isn't it good to clean/replace those occasionally(obviously not in Ford's scheduled maintenance)?

Yes, the 2000 3.0L has EGR. The underhood emissions label will tell you whether you have EGR on a particular year/model. There's no maintenance required. Replace as necessary.

Hey Bob,

Any idea what else I could check to help fix this rough idle issue and check engine I keep getting? It's showing cylinder 6 misfire constantly and I've changed out everything. Plugs, Wires, Coil Pack, Injector, Compression is good.

I'm so lost bro.

If we rule out all the things you listed, my next guess would be an intake manifold gasket leak. This kind of leak could cause misfire during high vacuum/low flow situations such as idling and low RPM, steady speed driving.

I changed all the gaskets out when I changed the injector. Made sure everything was snug. The light comes and goes as it pleases and usually flashes when idling at a light. Then goes away when I start to accelerate and later comes back on solid and stays on P0306.

I would try spraying a little carb cleaner at the gasket where the #6 runner of the lower intake meets the head. If the idle smooths out, that's where the leak is.

Hi Bob,

I had a mechanic shoot some propane in there and the idle smoothed out or so he said. But he wanted $450+ to get in there and replace the gasket, took it to someone else and they replaced it for way cheaper. Still getting CEL and misfire.... Now my mechanic is telling me it's gotta be the computer... He said the ECM isn't sending a strong enough signal to that cylinder but it sending fine signals to the rest?

Is that possible?
