wow bummer, time for an aftermarket exhaust :D
I would take it to a reputable muffler shop and have them inspect it
unless you cracked the exhaust manifold $1000 is way too much
catalytic coverers are not cheep either and if you damaged one or more of those ceramic beauties the bill could creep up towards 1K
let a good local shop check it out and see what they say can be salvaged
no need tell them you even took it to Ford until they give you a first estimate

nothing is black like everyone thought!
plus i think it sounds better that way...mine is a 3.0...they arent that loud in the first place..everyone says its as loud as a 4.0....who knows....LOL

Mines a 3.0 also. Our trucks are pretty low emission, so if there's no problems, there shouldn't be much carbon, just carbon dioxide, lol. Thanks, I may just leave it like it is and save a couple of bucks. I like how it sounds. I was surprised that a small section of pipe would make such a difference. Mine has a Dynomax SuperTurbo muffler which is very quiet. Now it's a deeper rumble -- still not loud, but nicer.

Thanks, Tom, but I'm not going to bother. I didn't like how close the pipe came to the spare (which is a 31" on my truck) and how the pipe kept getting thrust up into the body coming off hills.
So, I put this crappy dump on it to just angle the exhaust down and back. Just a piece I got at the local NAPA around the corner from work. It's underneath so I don't care and yes it's got a "crimp" bend but for that distance it can't mean much with 3.0 seeing as it's a 2.5" pipe. Hard to tell from the photo but it clears everything by 4" on either side or so. Not close to anything at all.
Still sounds deeper and more "rumble" than before! I like it.
I had to cut off the old clamp. It was pretty bad even after only 2 years.
